Description This is a piece I did quite a few years ago when I was into doing paintings on Leather, sort of like a shield, sort of Native style...It's hanging in my Studio and I hadn't realized that it hasn't been submitted to DA yet, so here it is...Hope you like it.

I used a reference photo from a book I have about Cougars entitled...Cougar, Ghost of the Rockies. by Karen McCall and Jim Dutcher. Filled with lovely photos and information about Cougars...

Full body cougar painted on leather in Acrylics, Cougar head sculpted out of air drying clay and painted in acrylics, decorated with beads and feathers.

I like it very much. Was painting on leather more difficult than canvas?

Haha, I thought the sculpted head was another painting on the leather, it's very well carved! Excellent work!

Thanks, and no it isn't any more difficult than painting on canvas. Fooled you with the sculpted head did I? :laughuing: It is hard to tell the difference when looking at it face on...

How far does that sculpted head stand out from the leather? Is it an etching or is it a full-fledged, 3D model? It's hard to tell from this angle.

It's about three inches deep...full sculpture minus the very back of his head...

Try it, you may like it! Lots of fun getting all goopy with clay...reminds me of when I made mud pies as a kid...
