Description I've finally finished it! This morning ...not long ago ... phew! Now I have to make the box for it to go in and package it up to go off to the lady who commissioned this one.

It's worked out just fine and dandy, not my favourite colours at all to work with, but ...

Hello there,

Firstly a huge thank you for all your lovely comments about my art.

This particular torc was a custom order and has long been sold. However, if you wish to have one made, then I will set up a page at my Etsy account (search for Artwyrd on Etsy).

I will let you know when more jewellery goes on there. If you give me an idea of colours, then the next work I do may have such colours in it! No pressure to buy, of course!

I would totally wear that! (Not to suggest I wouldn't wear your other jewellery... it's just that this would fit perfectly into my wardrobe, since I tend to wear brown/bronze/copper/deep reds a lot.)

That's really something. It's soooo precise and tidy, I'm amazed. Not the kind of thing I would personally wear but I sure can appreciate the work. Lots of people would love these colors, including me.

Thank you I do know it's not everyone's cup of tea - my work can be fussy, overornate, precise (even the back of the work is impeccably neat) ...

Oddly, a lot of people like the colours, even though they're not at all my favourite kinds of colours!

I know how it's like. Sometimes I spend 20 or more hours on a certain piece. But that is mostly chainmaille since I make my own rings and then I connect them.

I've had a look at your work and it is very different and lovely I prefer the more intricate kind of work to keep myself busy and occupied I think!

Thank you. I'm glad you like my work.
I have rather minimalistic mind when it somes to jewelry. It just how I am. I would have to force myself to make something really big, full and chunky. And I love to see work of people who make that kind of jewelry. Even more because my mind doesn't work that way.
I'm minimalist and I have the thing for metals. And almost always cold colors. I don't know why but it is just something I like.
You have pieces one has to plan but also pieces that are very time consuming. Not that some of mine are not, but I admire you for sewing all those beads to make a single piece of jewelry!

Artwyrd In reply to Ignisburns [2008-03-16 09:29:51 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome.

ERmm my pieces of work I don't really plan. I may have an idea for the basic shape, or the felt I make lends itself to shapes, or bits that just have to be cut out for their own intrinsic patterns, but mostly I just let things flow... I'm known to occasionally jot down ideas in a sketchbook, but rarely ever refer to them. The jewellery just happens!

They are time consuming, but that's the big pieces. Small earrings or pendants can be completed in a couple of hours if I need a 'quick fix' of jewellerymaking Sadly I've not done much lately ... due to other demands on my time

For me, it's the only way my art seems to work ... if I try to plan it it just doesn't seem to work out right at all!

Ignisburns In reply to Artwyrd [2008-03-20 12:47:29 +0000 UTC]

I usually make pieces the same way you do, but sometimes I get this vision of the entire piece and sometimes I make it the way I have seen it. And the vision is like photography - crystal clear.
But most often I just take wire and let it lead the way!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to Ignisburns [2008-04-06 06:34:50 +0000 UTC]

I find if I have a vision I can't really reproduce it - it seems to perfect in the vision for my skills here. I often record the image in my sketchbooks though, especially if its in a medium I can't work in (such as pure silver - I'm no silversmith, tried it and well I fail dismally, which is why I ended up making jewellery in the way I do ... which is a good thing, not a bad thing!)

It's lovely when it just flows, it's really something from you, from inside you ... a subconscious kind of thing and a connection with the material you're working it ... almost a spiritual kind of experience.

I agree with you. It is a definitely a meditative state of mind where you loose the sence of time. At least I do. I can work on a piece for hours and not noticing it. And it relaxes me completely.
And at the end it does feelil like you have put a part of your self in a certain piece.

I'm glad you like I'd not thought of it that way, though if I were to make an autumnal torc (which has now been planted in my mind ...) it would be yellows and oranges and reds and greens and pale browns and purply reds too ... all glowing and warm and ...

Must make a note - seasonal torcs ...

I think I'd look around me at the world for colours, as well as astrology/planets/seasons ...

Spring would be pale greens and yellows and some violets and pale blues ... all tendrils growing and small bright buds ...

Summer would be darker greens and yellows and oranges and reds and and and ... golds

Winter would be icy whites and blues and purples with black for the outlines of trees on a snowy landscape...

Astrological torcs could be fun too ...

Yeah...

For some reason I always associate Jupiter with Green and Saturn with purple, I can't understand why.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Artwyrd In reply to MasamRay [2008-03-02 14:08:40 +0000 UTC]

Green is Venus, well dark green is ... Saturn can be VERY dark purple, but usually black or very dark brown or grey ... earthen, heavy... Jupiter is expansive, joyful, generous, philosophical, justice orientated, so purple goes well with Jupiter in my opinion... but in this 'game' it's each to their own eventhen!

Yup. I was once trying to work out what genders I thought all the planets were. I'm not sure, but I worked out quite well actually - because they all coupled up.

Sun is masculine, Moon feminine, Venus is feminine, Mercury I tend to liken a bit to a young man, Jupiter is an old, wise man, Mars is a real action hero full of energy and strength and initiative, Saturn is a cool, cold businessman, rewarding hardwork, penalising sloppy work. Uranus is a very eccentric kidn of person, kind of mad scientist/inventor/new agey. Neptune is feminine, drifty, floaty, dreamy, ethereal, fantasy-loaded, and Pluto is Mr Very Deep and Serious and Searching and Mysterious.

I had the sun as male and moon as female (don't even get me started on why the sun is male) but I had Mercury as female, Mars as male, Venus as female, Earth as female, Jupiter as male, Saturn as female, Uranus and Neptune as male and Pluto as female. I'm not entierly sure myself, but I'm a firm in my belief that the sun is male and the moon and earth are female.

Earth as an energy is very receptive and is feminine in that kind of way. In astrology the signs of the zodiac are either +ve(masculine) or -ve(feminine) starting with Aries which is +ve, Taurus is -ve, and so on around the signs ... But the elements and qualities add nuances to them ... it's all very interesting!
