Description This collage-style deviation shows how I sculpted and painted the 1/4-scale Echidna (from Queen's Blade). (Viewing sequence: in each of the four panels, left to right then down.) Download may be necessary to see image details.

Artist's Intent:
In approaching the sculpt, I tried to minimize the sex-object overture of the anime character and, instead, emphasize the exotic beauty and the fiery warrior spirit. I wanted to capture the viewer's attention not with her luscious sex but with her shockingly bold and yet mesmerizing beauty. I know, to most, it will sound like splitting hair; but to me, there is a distinct fine line. I hope I have succeeded in materializing Echidna worthy to reside definitively in the world of visual arts.

This sculpt was meant to push all of my sculpting and painting boundaries. It was quite an excruciating (but in a satisfying way) process. As the work is done mainly for my own purposes, kindly refrain from critiquing.

Background Information:
This is a unique, 1/4-scale sculpt of Echidna, from the Queen's Blade anime. She was completed on May 1, 2011. I held off publishing her till now for a private contest.

I suppose this is my last sculpting hurrah from my California era... I thought it would be auspicious to publish what I considered as my best work to-date on the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Dragon (January 23, 2012). So, please don't mind the fact that Echidna's favorite creature is snake (next year's Chinese zodiac), not dragon.

Echidna took 348 hours to sculpt, 90 hours to prep (sand/putty), and 132 hours to paint.

i love her finger nails, and weapons! well I love everything really. Its cool to see the process you used, I still have issues making the armature. I am not sure if you say it anywhere, but what type of acrylic paint so you use?
