I know this is an older piece, but it is absolutely phenomenal. The amount of detail you've poured into the dragon really makes it jump to life. The color scheme is amazingly pleasing, and it all works unbelievably well. I will definitely be looking into that class.

wow the wings are really good! I like how they have a pattern, but it's still muted so it's not too distracting.

How do you add textures so well? Do you use a brush? Or do you put texture images over it?

I usually just create a brush or find an applicable brush.

LaDarkProphet [2014-07-07 00:17:19 +0000 UTC]

That is a wyvern not a dragon. cool concept though i love how it fits in with the theme you set for it giving it dry scales and tough wings for the climate which you depict. and the horns also give it that whole desert look. its a hot dry desolate place and your wyvern shows this with its design well done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to LaDarkProphet [2014-07-07 05:37:11 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I am aware that it is classified as a wyvern if it has two wings and two legs, but wyverns are a type of dragon.  Dragon can be used like dinosaur, a T. rex and a Triceratops are far more different than a wyvern and a hexapod dragon, but both are considered a dinosaur.  Wyvern itself can be a loose term, it can also be applied to serpents with wings and no legs.  So generally, the creator of a world can decide what is classified as a wyvern or not.  I count this is as a wyvern, but under the clade of Dragons.

LaDarkProphet In reply to arvalis [2014-07-07 20:45:16 +0000 UTC]

Ive never actually thought of that before under that ideal it really does allow the creator/artist more freedom to classify things and therfore make them his own. i apologize ofr my arrogance. please forgive me

this is so freaking amazing! i especially love the wing anatomy! it mixes a hand structure of a bird with membranes instead of feathers. Absolutely incredible!

TheAdventureDragon [2014-07-06 18:47:40 +0000 UTC]

Can I ask please, did you drew all the scales by yourself or you used a texture?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to TheAdventureDragon [2014-07-06 18:53:39 +0000 UTC]

Neither, really.  I do go over exactly how I did the scales in the class.

I just noticed that this looks like it was very heavily inspired by a bird of prey

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

arvalis In reply to theLacertakiin [2014-03-30 23:26:04 +0000 UTC]

That was certainly the general idea

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

theLacertakiin In reply to arvalis [2014-03-31 00:19:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the feet are very owl-like, the nose has sort of like a beak notch to it, the chest is very large like that of bird, and probably the most interesting part is the wings.  I can see how you divided up the parts of the wing to be sort of like all of the different types of feathers that are on the birds wings.  And than of course the entire dragon is swooping down to grab prey like a raptor.
