Description
I know I haven’t been posting anything in a really long time, but as they say, life happens and life has been happening a lot to me lately and I’ve been having a hard time getting back into a workflow and redefining a few things I’m struggling with. I still feel like I haven’t quite gone to a point I’m happy with, but I definitely feel like I’m improving!
So, anyways, on to this piece. It is a figure called “pittiplatsch” who appeared on the ddr version of the sandman. My father in law to be (this is such a mouthful in English...) had requested this piece for his birthday and I just couldn’t say no...
This piece was an easy one to get back into sculpting. The original (I’m assuming this based on the pictures I’ve seen), was a puppet that basically had a pear shape as a body and an ovalish head. The arms and legs were made from fabric, allowing the “puppet master” to move the limbs to bring the character to life. to mask the connection of the wooden body and the textile limb a ton of mohair/fur was used and there was also a piece of fur on his head that acted as hair.
Although I do love working in multimedia I chose to use fimo on the whole body and then fluffed it up with thread that I cut up into flocking(ish) powder. This was harder to get to the effect than I thought it would, but ultimately I think I succeeded and I’m really happy with the result. Definitely a technique to experiment further with
Unfortunately the lighting is less than ideal this autumn (might be cause I had to photograph so early today) so I’m heavily relying on your imagination and nostalgia for this one
