Description This is my entry for the 'Seven Deadly Sins' challenge in the group - I chose Selcarion y Figo di Astudillo as the OC to be shown because his sin is so obvious - superbia, or, in english, pride. As a highly talented mage it's difficult for him not to be over-proud of his qualification and knowledge.

I voted for you in the contests. I think this picture had one of the best feelings in it. I also love that it's made of ony black and white shades. It's also so amazingly detailed That's just not easy to do. Just wanted you to know

*smiles* Thank you very much for your feedback - I thought about doing a colored piece as many others did - obviously strict b/w art isn't that eyecatching as colored stuff - but then decided to do the thing I liked most to do. I'm happy I made it in the last voting round on place 5 with it, and it's wonderful to read it caught your eye for the style and expression

it is sad b/w art isn't as eyecatching, 'cause I really do belive it's more difficult to do and make look good. Some of the pictures in the contest looked only pretty. Yours held emotion. Lol, I was very impressed by it. I'm very glad you decided to participate that way

Thank you I decided to participate at any challenge if possible with a b/w piece ...just to show there's another way to draw if you just want to

He definitely is the man! At least in his own mind!

In opera he would need two seats ... one for his body, one for his ego ..

Love those sleeves! The pattern on them is authentic and beauiful. It looks like a playing card you could collect!
Good luck in the contest - I'm not entering this time. Instead, I'm offering a prize.

Well, voting is now open, so good luck! And I would love to see a deadley sins series with your characters (I tried to fit my characters to sins and failed so I hope you have better luck XD).

Oh well, my characters are always more sinners than heroes ... so it will fit better maybe

This would be to me, the hardest sin to portray, or at the very least the least obvious. Because I don't think most people view it as a sin, as much as greed, rage or lust.

Very well done, and his pride shines through his eyes. He does look very powerful.

Asarea In reply to PHarold [2010-10-05 09:12:57 +0000 UTC]

Well, I had several sketches for the expression and the pose, and it wasn't easy to do - as you stated, showing pride is a hard thing, but I'm quite happy how it turned out so thank you for the kind words!

PHarold In reply to Asarea [2010-10-05 16:06:29 +0000 UTC]

You are very very welcome. I don't think there are too many entries for pride. I saw another deviant (not related to this contest...and it was done in 2008) who did a digital painting set fot the 7 Sins, and he equated Pride with Vanity. But to me they are two different things. But I suppose it's how they are interpreted I guess.

This reminds me of an old theatrical illustration from the 1800's too,by the way!

I'm glad you like this ^^ One of my artist's slogan is 'B/W can be colorful, too!' ... it's just more work to do

geralin In reply to Asarea [2010-10-06 11:43:33 +0000 UTC]

That's right^^
You have to focus more on patterns then^^

Asarea In reply to geralin [2010-10-14 14:39:32 +0000 UTC]

MORE? Oo omg ^^ I feel my pictures will take weeks in the future to be finished

geralin In reply to Asarea [2010-10-16 13:00:37 +0000 UTC]

No, I meant without colours you have to focus more on patterns then to give a picture structure^^
I didn't tell you that you'd need to do more work...
Oh my, I wonder if that is better to understand now ^^'

Asarea In reply to Spacegryphon [2010-10-05 09:11:49 +0000 UTC]
