Haha I have llamas on the brain from being on dA! We have lots of alpacas over here in Australia, I love them. I didn't know you could ride them though! People here usually keep them in with flocks of sheep to scare away foxes - is that the same in Chile?

Whaaat? I didn't know alpacas were so badass as to scare foxes away haha. And yeah, you could ride them, or at least children can. I've never seen an adult riding one but I know some people do (and I thought I could take some license here ).
Riders don't use chairs, though, only a...blanket? I'm not sure about the translation, but it's something like that. They aren't as fast as horses, but they are great for walking through mountain passes or rocky surfaces, and they're quite tough. In northern Chile people breed llamas for their wool and meat, somewhat similar to having sheep. They are also used as pack animals. Llamas are bred pretty much for the same reasons here. There are other varieties, such as vicuña and guanaco. Don't worry if you can't tell them apart, even chileans have troubles doing so :d
