Description I finally got up to my ex-high school to pick up my folio work from a year and a half ago. I did this for my final Photography assessment near the end of 2009 (would have been September/October). I've uploaded a few individual photos from it before, but since most of them were scanned from "reject prints" (ones that weren't good enough to be ued on the board itself), I may scan them again from these ones and put up a few others (the new scanner will help too).

For this project, I had to choose a type of photography (e.g. documentary, narrative, etc.), choose a couple of artist models (at least two had to be photographers, one had to be from NZ - I also managed to fit in Victoria Frances) decide on a theme (what we would be photographing) and make a series of photos of various sizes that would portray our chosen theme without needing to explain it. I chose narrative/storytelling photography, and with my cousin's help (she's the model), hopefully got the story across (feel free to leave a comment with what you think - since the whole point is to not explain our intent, I won't).

All photos were taken with black and white film and processed entirely in the darkroom by me. There is nothing digital about these photos - all photo manipulation was done with various darkroom processes.

Previous uploads from this series:
Sorrow [link] (by far, my most popular image on dA)
Lost in the Woods [link]
Path of Memory [link]
Offering [link]
Prayer [link]
Silent Remembrance [link]

Costuming designed and made by me (except for the shirt, which belongs to my cousin): a brown tiered skirt with black lace trim, and a black lace veil.

Props used: A framed photo of my great-great-aunt (I think...); my Grey and Black Rosary (seen here [link] ), a red rose, and several dead roses (credit goes to my aunt for drying them).

Photos taken in Cornwall Park, Auckland (at one point we had to dodge a wedding photographer who wanted to use the same area - fun times!).

I like most of the photos on your board and I think that you've been really creative in how you've processed them and displayed them on there. I do think there are possibly a few unnecessary repetitions, but I guess it's a toss up between including images that MIGHT not need to be there, and having huge gaping spaces... I think I'd choose to put the images in

However, if you want to know the ones I think could possibly have been omitted, I think:
- possibly either the second or third image in the second row on the left-hand board. Probably the second. It kind of appears almost like a film-sequence or story board but not necessarily in a good way. Or like one of those 80s music videos that show movement by using still images... kind of like a 1 frame per second film.
- third image from the left in the top row of the right-hand board. It seems too similar to the one to its left.
- first image from the left on the right-hand board as I think it's too similar to the one to its right, and if I had to choose between the two, I'd pick the left-hand one to go because to me it shows a bit much.

Still, feel free to disagree, but that's what I'd do if I were showing it for example, at mid-year review or something. Other than that, I love it, and technically they're well executed (excuse the formality... I've just been writing an uber-essay for Mel).

I do know a bit about the series and the model and the issues you suffered surrounding it, but that doesn't change my opinion of it. I only know because you've told me, and if you hadn't told me, I wouldn't know haha. If you don't tell people, then it shouldn't affect their reading of it. Your teacher should have been able to stand back and look at it more objectively because they're all beautiful images together and on their own.

Thanks, it's good to actually get constructive feedback for once.

There are a few repeats because I was getting a bit rushed towards the end and wasn't able to do all the ones I wanted (didn't really help that someone decided to randomly switch enlargers a couple of days before the deadline...). I'm hoping I might get a chance to reprint some of them someday (I still have all the negatives), though it won't be anytime soon.

Thanks again. I know you're busy with Uni work, so I really appreciate you taking the time to look at this.

You should be able to print them commercially. It's not like you need the negatives developed so I think most places would do it.
