Description Another Nylon Flower piece

This one I made for my mom. She has this little cute vase thing that one of her coworkers gave her as a souvenir from a trip

I'm sure I've seen flowers like these when I was a kid but I just can't remember where exactly... I just remember I loved to touch them
Thanks for bringing back those memories.

Aww, you welcome XD thanks for telling me - it's always nice to find something that brought us joy as a child =]

I know it was quite popular in Japan during the 1990's... or so my mom tells me, apparently the technique was invited there? I think in china too it's sorta popular.. when I was buying supplies though there were only old ladies there LOL

And =O your croquet plushies are all so cute <333

Thank you

I asked my mother about it. She told me she made the ones I remembered, and that it was popular in the 70s in France. But I couldn't find where it all began ^^

Oh, so it goes back even further XD I guess that's something to research lol
Well if she knows how to make them, that's awesome, you can ask her to teach you

These are selfmade
Fantastic work. Has the technique you have used a special name? I've never seen something like this before. Or could you give a book recommendation about this? I would love to learn to make something similar. The flowers look so fragile and beautiful

Thank youuu

Um, I'm not sure what the name is, but I call it nylon flowers - which is also a direct translation from chinese, and also cause that's the material being used XDD

Apparently it was developed in Japan in like the 90's or something and was quite popular. I only discovered it after my aunt took me to see her friend who makes these flowers (she is SO GOOD at it).

As for books, the only ones I've seen not so good simple instruction books with only a couple of pics for each flower and in chinese. It's enough for me because the technique is fairly simple.

I've been thinking about doing a tutorial for it actually .. but the thing is that most of the supplies I got was during my visit to China. The wire is fairly easy to get at your local craft/art/beading store. The nylon you can buy nylon stockings. But the flower centers you might have to get online. And I have no idea where to get the nylon string I use.

For those reasons I was also thinking about making a beginners kit or something for people who want to try it out that they can purchase... XD

I'm kinda busy these few weeks with midterms, but if you really would like learn, I'll be happy to work something out =] Lmao sorry for the long post XDD

btw, I looked at your gallery... YOUR BERRIES ARE SO CUUTEE <3
Do you sell them on etsy or anything?

Thank you so much for taking time for such a long answer And it is so kind that you want to help me I really want to learn and so I started with the keywords "tutorial nylon flower" on google and get a lot of hits. Maybe this will give me a first impression if I like the whole work AND if I got some talent for this . If I got further questions I would send you a note if you don't mind.
Thanks a lot again for your kind offers
And yes I sell my Berrys but at the moment just on exhibitions in Germany. I planned (for years I think) to sell them online but I always was too lazy for that (I think another BIG reason is, that I really love each one of them and so it is hard to give them away )

Oh nice, I actually didn't think of searching it Lol XDD :duh:

Yuh sure, send me a note anytime - if I don't respond in a couple of days you can email me or something - I'm trying to go on deviantart and being more active but sometimes I still lazy around and forget to do so

Ooo
Yea I feel the same. When you make something you like it's hard to part with them. And I'm lazy too XDD

Well, if you ever decide to, there's a site called etsy.com that's great for selling handmade items =]

The problem with etsy is, that you can only register with a credit card and I do not have one So etsy would be my first choice...

Hm.... do they sell those pre-paid credit cards? you might be about to use that - or link it to paypal and then use paypal with etsy

Berryland In reply to ashenXnight [2010-02-26 13:10:29 +0000 UTC]

To be honest: I've never heard about those pre-paid cards (just with cell phones ). So I have no idea about that.

I just heard of them like a year ago - but they're convenient for like online stuff - it's more protected because you put at certain amount of money into it and w/e's in there is how much is in there is how much you can use, so you don't really have to worry about someone stealing your credit info and stuff

[link] - an example

I dunno if they have those in Germany though =T But it's something you can look into =]

Well done, I would say. I guess it wasn't that easy to get the leaves just like that Pretty

ashenXnight In reply to emu-strutsi [2010-02-24 10:31:56 +0000 UTC]

It's actually not that hard only takes slightly longer then the regular loops because it needs to be coiled first. But it's still time consuming because each leaf and petal has to be looped and wrapped.

Thankyou ^_^
