Description I apologize for my handwriting which may or may not show up to be too small to read. Anyways, this is my submission to #zeldanime 's design a dress contest.

There are four designs: Diana, Classic, Victoria, and Joan. Below the dresses have additional commentary about the dress and how it was designed.

And yes, I'm being silly about this.

Base:
Chibi!Link in the upper left hand corner. "Yiii boi! " he smirks, clearly enjoying the view of a Zelda based mannequin. The mannequin can apparently speak as well, and proclaims, "I'm a base! (╯-3-)╯ ┻━┻"

Diana (Royal dress):
If the name didn't give it away already, this dress is based off some of the late Princess Diana's own collection of dresses, which includes the design of the high heel displayed. The bun relates to Princess Diana's short hair. Since Princess Zelda has long hair, a bun is the answer to keeping the Diana look as close as possible to the late princess.

Classic (Royal dress):
This is based off of Zelda's look in Ocarina of time. Obviously, it's been modified. Different color palette swaps allow for the same look except from different games. There is a Twilight Princess palette (violet), A Link To The Past (dark blue), and Skyward Sword (light blue) palettes.
The palettes include not only the dress's color, but the color of the accessories (tiara, shoulder guards, belt) that go along with it.

Victoria (Casual dress):
I won't like, this is basically a steampunk inspired dress. The name "Victoria" is in reference to the Victorian era, which steampunk is based off of. What can I say? I love steampunk. Note, I say "inspired" because this could really just be a neo-victorian (?) dress with a brown color palette. Anyways, Zelda's hair is tied up in a bun here as well, and a copper plated hair clip hols back her bangs.
There are lyrics in her speech bubbles are from this brilliant song, called Just Glue Some Gears On It (And Call It Steampunk) . It's a lovely song, really.

Joan (Fight outfit):
The name comes from Joan of Arc, the famous female French fighter. (Try saying that five times fast.) A boring suit of armor, color wise. I focused a lot more on the mechanics of the armor (straps, placement of plates, how the plates work with each other) than anything else. In this case, the chestplate (specifically, the abdomen area) is flexible. Granted, it lowers defense quite a bit, but I'm quite sure that the Princess is agile enough for this to work out in her favor. The back is flexible as well, there is one hinge where the most notable curvature in the back is.
The skirt is made of four sections: One plate on the front and back, and two on the side. This allows for more flexibility in the hip area, while still being relatively protected.
The colors in this suit of armor can be pretty much replaced with anything you want, and it'd work really. Although it should be taken into consideration that the straps are made of leather.

tl;dr:
Diana is based off of Princess Diana's outfits.
Classic is based off of OOT Zelda, with color swaps from other games.
Victoria is steampunk inspired. Go watch "Just put some gears on it (and call it steampunk) on youtube.
Joan is a fancy suit of armor.

Thank you very much for your interest in my submission! If you managed to read all of that without dying, I applaud you.

I do admit, I prefer the royal dresses (both classic and Diana) over the others, ahah. Thank you for your input

I'm glad you think so, but do you care to clarify which one? Both the Diana and Classic are royal

Ahah, don't worry about it. It's an easy mistake to make. At any rate, thank you very much for the compliment
