I failed to add that the white border with thin black outline really adds to the picture, as well.

Awesome. I like the pattern and texture a lot. The crop is good, too. Seriously, I think it would look plain boring if it was centred
What more.... I think the desaturation works well. Colour would probably draw attention from the pattern, texture and form. Among all your pics, this is definitely in the top 5 (for me)

crop and the object choice is perfect, but I guess that lof depth of field doesn't quite work here at least not for me... I'd love to see focus on more of that flowers
and despite my complaints, very well done

I like this. It's really well composed and I think the tones suit perfectly. It seems, the depth of field is slightly shallow...for me at least. This might have given a sharper feel to the detail. But I just am really in admiration of this type of photography because I am don't do it myself.

Thank you. Yes, it did have a very shallow dof.

At first sight - cactus. Good work.

assimilated In reply to stanikic [2005-01-26 08:14:59 +0000 UTC]

Its definitely not a cactus. It had a very long stem, grass like leaves, and this strange ball of flowers. They looked like spikes.

Sorry for my bad english. It looks like a cactus, but it is definetly not a cactus.

Great macro there ,
its true though , why go black and white when you can just photo shop it
eventhough on the other hand
....i still do develop black and white....
ummmm.... yeah
good pic bye the way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

assimilated In reply to soggynoggin [2005-01-16 01:10:31 +0000 UTC]

LOL. I never use the black and white mode on my camera, just because (as a friend found out) you can make a color photo into a black and white one, but its harder to put the color in!

Thanks. Although its actually a desaturation... not quite black and white.

oh... (feels sheepish)... still, it demonstrates ideals of black and white photography very well which is why i dig it.

one-bg [2005-01-15 18:33:01 +0000 UTC]

impressive
Very few black and white pics of flowers manage to catch my glimpse since flower's best feature is colour...
but there is that rare pic, which is more of an abstract shape mind-bugger
it is nice, really , thank you for posting it

assimilated In reply to one-bg [2005-01-15 21:51:07 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. I was going to post it cropped to the whole flower head, but i've been reading so many photography books which are all saying "THE GOLDEN RULE OF THIRDS!!!", so I thought I wouldnt center it... its not quite a third, but.. *shrugs*

Thank you!

The secret to the sharpness, is that my camera takes photos at 3000 x 2000 pixels (thereabouts), and when resized to appropriate DA viewing size, the noise, grain... it all disappears!

thanks for the heads up

ill remember that, not that my camera can take that size but yeah, on full size
