Description β€œAn Atheist believes that a hospital should be built instead of a church. An atheist believes that deed must be done instead of prayer said. An atheist strives for involvement in life and not escape into death. He wants disease conquered, poverty vanished, war eliminated.” -Justin Brown

You know what? Not all thiests use prayer as an excuse. Most use it as a coping method after they've done everything they can.

why donΒ΄t just say: "BE AN ATHEIST, OR ELSE YOU ARE AN IMMORAL BIGOT!" ?

this also discriminating the christians who are actually active in the world.

Sounds more like a Humanist than just an atheist. Most Buddhists are atheists, many Hindus are atheists, a lot of New Age types are atheists, and a great many atheists don't have a philosophy and couldn't care less about other people, just like many are compassionate rationalists or dedicated Humanists; atheism is not a philosophy, it only describes the lack of a belief in a deity. Any manner of superstition, apathy, or even cruel psychopathy could coincide with that single-issue position.
Aside from that quibble, I do very much like the quote, being a Humanist myself.

Well, the history of the Soviet Union, Pol Pot, Maoist China, and other examples of the 20th Century would tend to contradict this...

Imagine no religion.

Two things:

1. What does this have to do with Occupy?
2. The money of a church is its own money. The government has no hand in that which promotes a fundamental belief in Occupy: religious freedom

Oh and sad enough I've seen Christian and Muslim groups do more in charity, aid, and health (may be why a lot of hospitals and colleges are religious) than the atheists at my school. This quote may need a revision.

The Khmer Rouge and Soviet Union proved otherwise. The real problem is and has always been human nature. How many more nuclear weapons were built instead of hospitals in the 20th Century? As if being able to fry the planet a few hundred times isn't enough.

The Soviet Union was only atheist for political reasons, not to be an actual atheist society. Eliminate the competition for control of the people.

Isn't politics what it's always about? Theocracies are the same way.

Bu-but...they weren't religious, so it was TOTALLY OKAY! No one takes that into account, I'm just glad you said it.

Guess I just don't want people to judge by grouping, but rather by the individual.
