Beauty. These planes are very cool, one of the first to contra-rotate the props to balance the plane.

ironically, when Great Britain expressed interest in purchasing the Lightning, Lockheed didn't want to sell the secrets of the aircraft. So the first aircraft delivered didn't have contra-rotating props OR superchargers. The British government HATED it and cancelled their orders, referring to it as "the castrated lightning."

The thing must've handled like a pig without contra rotating props, the tails aren't designed to handle that much torque.

A gentleman in Texas recently purchased this aircraft along with racing legend "Rare Bear" which he is completely refurbishing, and is sitting in about a thousand pieces in a hangar in said state.
He plans to keep Glacier Girl flying and get Rare Bear back into championship form.
