yes much more dramatic, the sky looks "enhanced"... the blue is too deep though (and the black-white frame adds to that feel of heaviness) -and watch those burned whites on the waves (even if less details sort of create that "dreamy" mood on those). do make more experiments with tones, combine them the way you see fit -even a subtle tone radically changes the mood of a BW (or desaturated) pic. you're on the right way anyway...

Each to their own indeed. As i said to someone else i am torn between the 2. Like you i like the colours of the other however i quite like the ambience and dark feel of this. Thanks very much for your input.
