-Backstory -

Kithood
Coalkit and his brother Emberkit were born to Ashscar and Lightbelly. From the start his parents were all over him, loving him at the downfall of Emberkit who was shunned and treated by his own mother as runt. There was very little young Coalkit could do at the time but take in all the love and attention he was given, it pleased him...and also blinded him to how bad Emberkit's treatment was.

This lack of understanding on all his denmates part only served to contribute to Emberkit's insecurity.  No matter what Coalkit tried to do, attempting his best to deal with this difference between the two brothers by innocently inviting Emberkit to play with other kits would only result in failure. No other kit wished to hang out with the younger of the two brothers. Not when they feared the idea of Lightbelly going after them.

It was a long and honestly mostly confusing kithood for Coalkit. But he was happy in his own bubble, yet to truly understand what his past really meant.

Apprentice-hood
Moons waxed and waned until Coalkit became Coalpaw and Emberkit was Emberpaw. His transition from the nursery to apprentice den seemed to awaken something inside Coalpaw, and soon enough the young tom was labeled as a reckless and rebellious apprentice much to his parents discontent.

Coalpaw's mentor was Leafsong, a kind but short-tempered she-cat. Leafsong had been quick to pick up on Coalpaw's family's state of wellbeing- quickly instructing the young tom about how parents should take care of their kits. Using her sister Roseblood as an example Leafsong explained that if someone truly cared they would go as far as to leave their clan behind for those they loved. Indicating that Coalpaw's parents and in particular Lightbelly was no such cat despite the attention she had given the apprentice as a kit.

Driven to turn his back on his parents Coalpaw began to test the limits, voluntarily breaking some codes just to see how his parents would react. The horrors on their faces when he would get told off by Lightningstar right before their eyes was the satisfaction he had aimed for.

It soon became a routine for Coalpaw. Get in trouble, get told off, drop by and comfort his brother to make it clear he loved him. Despite his efforts to bring other apprentices Emberpaw tended to stay on his own, used to that life style since kithood. The only cat he would ever truly spend time with was the yong apprentice known as Angledpaw, a cat that Coalpaw was glad to see present in his life. Someone who would succeed in bringing joy where he couldnt.

Right when he thought his life would be just a repetitive routine of trouble Coalpaw was approached by an apprentice recently turned warrior by the name of Reedpelt. Reedpelt had been one to watch and encourage Coalpaw to deal with his parents one way or another, and this time he had someone else that was with him. A she-cat by the name of Ebonypaw whom Reedpelt felt could benefit Coalpaw by befriending.

Ebonypaw was the type of cat who Coalpaw needed to bring him onto the right track. She was understanding but stern, unwilling to let him loose himself completely to his reckless and rebellious ways. The two would often hang out, and as time went by Ebonypaw was able to help the tom let go of the need to deal with his parents. He was almost a warrior now, they shouldn't have any control over his life.

Warrior-hood

Both Coalpaw and Ebonypaw were able to receive their warrior names after surviving a League ambush on their patrol and getting to camp in time to alert the clan so that they could come to the others rescue. Coalpaw was given the name of Coalblaze and Ebonypaw was Ebonycloud. Emberpaw was made warrior a few weeks later alongside of Angledpaw, now known as Embersplash and Angledwing.

Unbeknownst to him Embersplash and Angledwing had their own relationship issues. Being the quiet and scared tom he was Embersplash didn't dare to admit that he loved Angledwing, unaware that in the meantime the she-cat had developed feelings for another lakeclan tom "Wormstorm" who had league background. After a few moons Angledwing and Wormstorm became mates. One night the two spent their time together watching the sunset, not knowing that Embersplash was watching. In reaction to this Embersplash was heartbroken, committing suicide.

The loss of his brother left Coalblaze torn, but what further angered him was how Lightbelly seemed to care so little about it. As if Starclan was seeking revenge for his loss Wormstorm was found guilty of being part of the rogue group, and under Lightningstar's rule he was sentenced to death. Angledwing was at loss, clearly more than Coalblaze was. The she-cat was driven mad to the point of jumping into a fox den. Seeing life shattered around him disgusted Coalblaze, pushing him to seek comfort in Ebonycloud's present. Little did he know that his clan's troubles were just starting.

During the massacre Coalblaze was forced to fight off Lightbelly as the queen attacked him. Present at the gathering she had easily been swayed to the League's side after Ashscar revealed himself to have been spying on the clan since the beginning. With Ebonycloud's help Coalblaze was able to fight off his mother, chasing her into the waters by their camp's side and watching without regret as the she-cat fought herself struggling against waves of fleeing rogues. Her body was found washed on shore a few days after calm returned. Ashscar was nowhere to be seen.

The most surprising part was a few days after Angledwing woke up from her coma, discovering what had gone down and that she was expecting kits. A few moons passed and the queen gave birth to two toms, Wormkit and Emberkit- names that clearly referred to her past friends. Names that Coalblaze felt that the queen didn't deserve to carry on.
However as if Starclan was echoing his feelings a rogue came into camp one night to capture Emberkit. Shimmerstar and Angledwing were quick to chase after the tom, not hesitating to go right off to the ocean side to hunt him down. Soon enough the two she-cats were able to corner the rogue, but when the feline dropped into the waters below with her son Angledwing recklessly jumped in- forcing Shimmerstar to choose between the two. Taking Wormkit into account the leader went after her warrior, only to be turned upon as an angered Angledwing blamed her for Emberkit's disappearance.

What followed was a gradual but problematic rot for Lakeclan. Angledwing became sour, blaming her leader for the entire thing simply because Shimmerstar had chosen to save her life over Emberkit's. Seeing his mother's gradual decent into insanity was enough to drive Wormkit away, and one night as the camp was busy at the gathering the kit slipped away- his scent ending at the borders.

Loosing both her children was enough to snap Angledwing, and slowly she began to poison the rest of the clan into believing that Shimmerstar and Foxline were unfit as leader and deputy. The queen was able to go as far as the cause Foxline's exile as she forced Shimmerstar to do so in order to prevent a full out war between clanmates. Knowing the background to this story Coalblaze was not fooled. He was disgusted by the way some cats listened to a cat who clearly had lost its mind, and was not surprised when Angledwing was revealed to have been plotting with the League all along. Exile was fitting for the clan. But it didn't seem fitting for him. Angledwing had damaged so much in Coalblaze's life and he strongly believed she deserved to die- alas it seemed someone else took care of it as the queen was found dead a little ways out of clan territory.

Life resumed as Coalblaze turned his attention to Ebonycloud. The two cats had been close but they never had bothered to dwell on their relationship. Given what had gone down both agreed that Lakeclan was unfit to harbor kits until peace returned and the League was dealt with. Foxline eventually returned, moving into the nursery with her three kits and Lakeclan assigned Scorchstorm as new deputy instead. The two warriors were glad to have waited as not even two moons later the League declared war.

Coalblaze and Ebonycloud were quick to fall back as the League invaded their camp, with the nursery taken care of the two cats fled to Stoneclan territory. They had done so just in time as a fire swept across Streamclan and Lakeclan territory. As it died down however, the two mates found themselves fighting new league hordes as Stoneclan was ambushed- the fighting only ending at the death of Thornheart himself.

Returning to their clan Coalblaze and Ebonycloud were greeted by the news that Shimmerstar was dead, replaced by her deputy and now leader Scorchstar. Rather than choose one clanmate of his deputy Scorchstar assigned the role to an ex-stoneclaner by the name of Boulderthroat. No matter how much doubt he had in their situation Coalblaze allowed Ebonycloud's optimism to lead him. The two are now waiting to assess their clan's situation before deciding whether to go further in their relationship.

And this is where his story continues...
