i've sorta decided that chespin is a porcupine.... which is where they get the "pin" in his name.
To be completely honest i'm happy they broke the line of reptilian grass starters.... they just never appealed to me and i've always wanted something more from the grass starters.... i never even liked bulbasaur because i just don't know what he is still to this day... some kinda freaky looking toad or something? idk... and chikorita never made sense to me either... i was just never a fan of them. Treecko and Turtwig were okay to me but then Snivy ruined it all... It loses its limbs when it evolves? what.... I think if they made his last evo grass/dragon as i think they planned i would enjoy him more but he's just not to my appeal... So i'm really hoping they do something good with Chespins evos as i see his with the most potential...
Fennekin on the other hand i like that it seems like theyre gonna break the fire/fight combo and make it something else but they ruined it by not actually giving it that fire on it like Charmander, Chimchar and Cyndaquil. And tbh it reminds me too much of Vulpix, Eevee, etc as someone stated before....
Froakie i give props because it's just a good design... But i can't see where they're gonna go for its evolutions as most "frog" pokemon start off as a tadpole version.... Poliwag and Tympole for example turn into Seismitoad and Politoed. Also another reason Froakie isn't my favorite, the water toed and frog pokemon have just been horribly overdone.... give it a rest nintendo.
So yeah i like the pokemon they're making, i totally support gen 6 and the badass Yveltal (the legendary Y pokemon) but i'm hoping to see them break more traditions and go off the line with it this time... I'm already pleased we've gone away from colors and gems to a more genetic approach and nature kind of approach as they did in gen 3. I really can't wait and i'm hoping for them to give a lot more pokemon evolutions. Mr.Mime and Jynx *cough* and i'd love to see more eeveelutions just not pokemon who look like eevee lol

Saij-Spellhart In reply to AttackVII [2013-01-10 01:11:04 +0000 UTC]
Any specific reasons?
I like Fennekin and Froakie, but not Chespin.
Fennekin and Froakie followed pkmn starter tradition. Fennekin being year of the dog, because its a fox. and Froakie being an aquatic/terrestrial animal.
So far all fire starters are from the chinese calender. and all water are aquatic/terrestrial, animals that can survive in water and on land.
The plant starter however broke tradition. before Gen 6 all plant starters were reptilian. I'm curious why the game designers chose to change this.
I also have some issues with Chespin's design, he's feels too much like a Gen pest. which is usually, rattata, sentret, bidoof, zigzagoon, and patrat. those annoying little rodents who pop up everywhere, and are never very powerful. even if some have their charms.
I also think Chespin looks silly, and as one of my co-workers said, "They've usually been pretty generous to the plant staters, and made them look pretty neat."
But that aside, Froakie, looks odd, but he has a nice color combo, and he looks like his later evos might be pretty cool. No where near as badass as Totodile though.
Fennekin makes me think Irish, cause of the name, but that aside, my boyfriend thinks the ear hair looks odd, and it kinda does, i think there could have been a better was to go about designing his ears. I also wish it could have had some open flames on it. since most of the fire starters had open flame including, Charmander, Cyndaquil, Chimchar. I also think foxes are a little overused, since we already have, Evee & evos (fennec foxes already) Vulpix & Nintails, Kadabra & evos, Zorua & evos. That aside, i think Year of the dog would have been better represented by a dog, instead of it's canine cousin. Would have been cool to see a saint bernard, husky, poodle, weener dog, austrailian shepherd, pug, or etc. Just to see what they'd do with the designs.
I'd like to hear your opinion.

Who knows what Chespin will evolve into? Right now, it looks kinda like a hedgehog or a chipmunk, but it might actually be something else entirely.

we will have to wait and see, until then, my opinion over him still stands. He reminds me too much of a Generation pest. he's my least fav. That's not to say he's bad, just not my fav of the three. I thought they could have done better.

I see you aim.
But i dislike Fennekin because ive always loved the odd or freak type characters which Chespin falls into, also finnekin is gonna have fire coming out of it's ears when it evolves I bet.
It also appears as tho I can predict Finnekin's whole line and role and as hard for me to say it I just hate it for now because I gotta go another generation where I simply resented the fire started.
Im hoping forward that they really do something cool with Froakie and Chespin's "Finn hat" in the evos.
Yea but Chespin has a design factor that strays him from the Rodents, but I feel in the end hes gonna be the one who changed everyone's oppinion in his evos.
I agree with the plant starters but not 2nd Gen grass.
1st Huger flower on back, 3rd big razor leaf lizard, 4th a turtle with a small plain on its back, 5th a royal "Snake" oddly.
But the Pokemon Company should realize there are hundreds of thousands of different kinds of animals in the world and things you can make up but still keep RECYCLING the same species of creatures.
O man I'd love to see a pug. "tho they just wasted the opportunity"

yeah, the recycling of the species is kinda lame, there are many more animals they could work with. Still waiting for a platypus starter for water.
And they blew their opportunity to make a great fire starter dog, by using a species of fox that they already used with Eevee.
And i understand where you are coming from with the fire starter. I love fire starters, since the first gen.
1st. Cyndaquil (cause c'mon its an echidna that evolves into a crested porcupine, and then a fire wolverine.)
2nd. Charmander (cause year of the dragon is awesome and he had a cool design in my opinion.)
3rd. Torchic (Dunno why, but i appreciated their take on a fire chicken, and in their defense, c'mon it could have looked really stupid.)
4th would be Chimchar (I'm not a monkey fan, even if it is my year, but still I think they could have gone a different direction their.)
5th is Tepig (He's my least favorite design, and he's got a lot of bacon jokes, and seriously Fire/fighting is getting really old now. I'd love a change please. And he also looks like he should make an Indian rug with that belly design.)
This new one looks better in my opinion then tepig, and chimchar. But still doesn't beat the first three.
Of course i was disappointed in gen 5 water starter as well. Snivy seemed the best choice of those three.
Gen 4, was questionable altogether. Not a fan of any of those.
Gen three had some alright picks.
And the other two pretty much sell themselves.
I have to give it to you on the freaky pkmn though. I like odd pkmn. But some of them are going too far, like Vanilish, Cryognal, just to name a few. I could go on.

mhmm, well i never argue with the torchic line when blaziken is one of the beloved pokemon of the time.
also on chimchar i expected fire/fighting since i expect them to originate it from son-Goku the monkey king who was a martial artist.
O yea Tepig was the worst fire starter of all time and its evos.
I dont judge pokemon by the generations just by my own opinion and if there are thousands who agree, theres a real problem.
gen 5 was most questionable to me snivy is ok i just done care for snakes, while oshawott had the most potential to me, it died at Samurott which only cool factor was the two swords it had.
......no, Vanillish and Cryognal....are garbage.

Strangley Vanilish and its line was created by one of the first westerners to be on the pkmn creation team. He was British actually, and he also created Mandibuzz, which i dislike.
Mandibuzz's design was based on a cave woman. The teeth in the front are supposed to be a woman's apron. and it's supposed to be the female counterpart of braviary. Frankly, i think Braviary, could do better. and second, they guy tried too hard to make the buzzard pokemon look womanly. especially with the apron bit. also it's japanese name is Vulgina, which thousands of men have made jokes about, because its so similar to the name of a woman's private parts.
aside from pkmn i dislike from the gens. which could go on and on. from many gens.
I'm hoping to see some new evolutions of older pokemon in Gen 6. Including a much needed evolution to Dunsparce. the poor little useless ground snake from gen 2.
as well as an evolution to Farfetch'd, and Sable-eye. Mantine would be neat too. And maybe a pre-evolution to Lunatone, and solrock.

I know but us americansee redeemed ourselves...by making the Garchomp line...but we also made the Golurk line.
Yeah Mandibuzz is gross.
Prey they dont do that mess like they did in gen 5 where they didn't make any prevos or evos, like Lovdisc coudnt evolve into the big hear sun fish...
I hop they do something with:
Primape "tho i odnt really want them too, i just wanna see it"
add a fighting final for cubone.
finish Jynx already
Dunsparce
Qwilfish
Sableye
"love to see a Quagsire evo too"

ooo i love quagsire and wooper. They are so Over powered.
They are immune to water and electric. Which makes them prime water pkmn. Being one of their major weaknesses is now completely obsolete. You can EV train them in speed to make up for their slowness. And wooper is so cute and he makes the most adorable noises in the game series.
They also heal upon contact with water moves. due to handy dandy water absorb, which makes them better then mudkip and his line, who do not posses that ability.
They only drawback is a 4x weakness to grass type. But remedy that, by not using them against grass pkmn.
