u really shouldn't get lost in brooklyn.
however---even then---the most ghetto areas are being gentrified--by the richer middle class yuppies ---
red hook etc etc...
NYC is going through major changes---losing its soul.
I am a third generation NYEr---and i too must part...
although my heart has never been in the city---(coutry gal)----seeing the way a city can shift --losing the essence of what make it NYC....is the saddest thing to witness.

it seems u never made it to Harlem.
TOO bad-----there are soooooooooooooooooooo...many wonderful vibes there. and the archetectural aspects are still landmarkes of extraordinary history.
there is actually an old signpost---of the mile distance to city hall ( an old stone carved.)
