Description

The first time I journeyed beyond the sea, I was uneasy. With every step I took away from the shore, my light grew weaker and dimmer, and my luminous sight with it. Sands became the strange consistency of soil; the waters I followed were not salty, but pure — and without that resonance, I dimmed. After becoming accustomed to a perception that could extend far away, the blurry haze that formed in my mind of all that my light could touch was nearly a blindness to me. I was in an alien place, an alien world. A place full of strange towering things, so many noises that traveled farther than they ever could in the ocean. I did not know what to expect, and I could not see far enough to know enough to put me at ease. It was not long before I fled, curling into myself and vanishing — reappearing in my boundary, the place I call home. Like a sigh, my power returned to me; my light expanded and filled me, filled the area around me in a billowing curtain of my pale glow along with the sands disturbed by my presence. I could see again, then. I returned to the brine pools and settled there, once again home. Once again haunting.
