Description
Smaug from the Hobbit (or at least how I imagined him as I was reading the book)! Just a small tribute of mine to the fandom since everything Tolkien is amazing. I will try to update with a better scan after break since my other scanner always captures the colors better.Β
The original will be up for sale in January along with some prints if there's any interest. Size is 4x6 inches. Materials are copics, white gel pen, watercolor and ink on hot pressed watercolor paper. Artwork belongs to me, please do not copy or post elsewhere without permission. Thanks!

I like your way of interpreting this beast, a creature so powerful that it causes solar eclipses in its wake. I like too that the fiery eye seen in the Two Towers in LotR is reflected underneath the dragon, as if some divine source of its creation. That, as I notice too, the gold like scales on the body, like the dragon has been laying on its hoard for to long, still a well done image.

If I see detail, I try to point it out, and sometimes, I put more into an image, inflect upon it more than what is actually there.

Oh my gosh, the colors on this look so amazing. I LOVE the white highlights, what pen do you use for them? I bought some white gel pens but they do not work at all, or maybe just not with prismacolors. ;-;

I use Jelly Roll brand gel pens. They should work with all different kinds of markers as well as colored pencils so long as the white ink is the right opacity. I've had problems before with gel pens having too clear of an ink and then not showing up on top of the other materials, but the Jelly Roll brand I've had great luck with! C:

Yeah, good white gel pens make quite the difference! And I have used these ones with prismacolor markers and various different brands of colored pencil, they work with everything.Β
