Description Another of the winning ideas for the little contest, this one by that talked about a phoenix based on water or earth instead of fire.

Well... actually the image of the phoenix as a bird of fire has little to do with the original legend, the phoenix was a pretty boring bird, except for its ability to burn to ashes when it got old and be reborn from the ashes... I played a bit with the idea of doing this as a bird made of water, but decided to go with an impossible fish/bird hybrid. Hope you like it, man.

Very original, especially considering the title! I rather like it.

It's not impossible, it's like a coelacanth/ flying fish/ trout/ bird. It's TOTALLY possible.

The contrast between the transparent fins and the rough scales is really great. Pinpoint posing as well.

'tis interesting that the phoenix should be scaled and green, though it's not a bad thing. this is quite a bit different from your typical phoenix, and i like it. good job, the coloring and the general scheme of this is excellent as is the idea behind it...

thanks! I tried doing it as a more serious bird-thing, but I ended up going for a tropical fish look...

Hmm. I assume that when THIS one gets old, it melts into a puddle of water and is reborn from it? Xp

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AxelMedellin In reply to Dray84 [2006-04-13 05:44:34 +0000 UTC]

I thought it dehydrated and became sort of a mud statue, until rain came and then it washed the mud away... or something like that
