Grey is loyal to his family and it’s traditions and will go to great lengths to help another family member. This can also be reflected on his friends, however there will always be lines where morality takes prescience and he upholds them. Grey oftentimes withholds any negative feelings to himself, not wanting to place any burdens onto any others with his own emotions. He will oftentimes joke especially when the atmosphere is heavy in an attempt to alleviate and brighten the mood even if he does not feel the same. Because of that, it’s also how he laughs easily. Overall, Grey likes to make the people around him happy even at the cost of his own happiness. History:
The Durell family is one of the Old Clans of Iadlain, rich in magic, wealth and lore. Farlan is the firstborn son of Lorcan and Aoife. He spent his childhood studying academics, magic, looking after his sister and learning how to one day become a trainer for Wisp Owls as well as maintain the Durell estate. But Farlan had always been something more of a free spirit, oftentimes finding himself wandering away from the pressure of expectations and trying to find playmates while trying to convince his sister. Even though most children made fun of their graying hair in which Farlan embraced instead of discarded. Of the two, Farlan was the troublemaker, always wanting to pull pranks or make a good joke despite his parent’s displeasure who hoped he would grow out of it in time.

But for all the happy times he had had, things changed. One night Farlan woke up to a commotion coming from the Wisp Owl roost, curious as to what was going on, he woke his sister and went out to see what it was. What they found was a large black dog scratching against the door to the roost. At first the siblings had thought it was an ordinary hound until it turned it’s red gaze upon them and to see the other half of it’s face torn and showing muscle and sinew. It was the first time encountering a barghest and the two narrowly escaped by jumping into the river near the family estate more out of accident than knowledge. They were found the following morning with Farlan holding his sister in his arms, still in the river. They then became ill from being out in the river for too long, but eventually recovered. They learned that their father’s owl and most of the owlets from a clutch had passed away that night even though the hound never got inside, making Lorcan utterly bitter.

Farlan then took it upon himself to follow in the footsteps of his ancestor, taking the mantle of a monster hunter and delving into old tomes that were long forgotten in the Durell library. But despite the ordeal, Farlan continued to be the prankster, wanting to alleviate the heavy mood that befell the house. Despite his parent’s opinion on his attitude, they both felt he and his sister were ready to train their first owls, in which Farlan named his Sir Redmond an Bán much to his parent’s displeasure.

Time passed as Farlan grew older into his late teens and continued to train his owl, his academic and magic studies along with his studies into monsters and creatures. He even went through An Ceangal with Redmond, having a closer bond with the owl. It was around this time that Farlan began his first hunt wanting to take the fight to the monsters rather than the other way around, coming back home a little worse for wear and sparking an argument with his father. Rebelliously he continued to pursue hunting monsters, but as he grew older he began hunting only those that presented a major threat. Ones that had killed, harmed or are disrupting the lives of people.

He settled in for more family matters, primarily taking up the training of owls, sometimes soldiers to be tamers as well as business with clients about the owls.

As protectors, they can ward off minor threats such as guarding a chicken coop from foxes during the night or fields and structures from other small birds.

-It is a tradition of the Durell family to name and raise a Wisp Owl of their own as a personal companion. When the Owl is of age, the owner and the Owl go through a magical ceremony called An Ceangal, giving owner a tattoo along with both Owl and owner having a vague link to be able to sense when the other is nearby.
