"Can you imagine being stuck in a body you despise, you've never been comfortable with your whole life? You look at the mirror and don't see something you'd like to be; you have to literally cope with your reflection everyday, with feelings of self rejection just getting stronger? And the idea of being something else, trying to break free is just seen as "wrong" and "sinful" by the society?"

When I watched that in a video recently, I admit I cried a bit.
I don't remember very well what was the video's name, nor do I have the link anymore, but it was about transsexuality. I've been watching and reading a lot of articles about it recently, after my best friend found herself a trans this year. I'm doing my best to learn about it everyday, so I can be the best support for her in such a tricky moment of her life.

The more I read, the more trans people I get to know, the more I sympathize with them all. I read many stories and testimonials of many guys and girls who were born in the wrong body and found a completely, magical, and finally happy life after assuming their true selves. It's really fantastic to be a part of it, or at least having the opportunity of watching it closely as it happens with my best friend.

Today, I've found out that another friend of mine has also identified himself as a trans. He's very important to me and he's been really brave about breaking the news. It reminded me of how hard it is for trans people to talk about it with friends and family, and how important it is to have support at that time.

So this is a gift. It's a gift for Dani, a gift for Envy, and a gift to anyone who's out there trying to be true to themselves. It's my way to translate my support into art, hoping it will be shared and bring good feelings to other people who need it as well.
No matter who you are, how you identify yourself, who you love. Letting your true colors run free shouldn't be a reason for any shame or fear. You have people that love you for what you've always been inside, and will stand by your side for whenever you need.

Little PS: This piece's main focus is transsexuality awareness and acceptance, but in my opinion its symbolism could be addapted to any other kind of self discovery and in many different levels. The main idea is really, "letting you be yourself". <3
