~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Before anything, I just want everybody (that I watch & who watches me) to know that I'm sorry I've been so slow at commenting on your artwork. I'm still am not used to this terrible version of DA. Trying to view deviations is a nightmare for me & the other day I accidently deleted a lot of the deviations in the "Deviations" section, so I think I'll have to visit everybody's galleries one by one....

Okay....

I've noticed that Disney fan artwork seems very (and I mean VERY) popular. I've run out of fan art ideas so I've kinda jumped onto the Disney Bandwagon. I got inspired by the people who especially draw Disney characters in their own style. One big influence is who has drawn a Disney Princess in her own style (and is awesome...you should go visit her gallery, she's amazing!). I also got inspired by , who draws Disney in true Disney style, but she's great. She drew sketches of the stepsister in Cinderella, so that gave me an idea to introduce my 1st Disney fan artwork of...

Drizella & Anastasia Tremaine! I wanted to make them pretty though (because I don't want to draw them ugly). I wanted them to look rather smug and arrogant. I based their outfits mostly on the Disneyland/Disneyworld (not sure which one) version: [link] Also, as well as elements from the movie version (when they are going to the ball) and I added a few touches of originality as well.

I hope everybody likes this. I will have more Disney fan artwork to come.

Drawn with black India Ink & coloured in with Prismacolor coloured pencils.

Drizella and Anastasia Tremaine (C) Disney

Hello! Thanks for the on this! I'm happy you like it. I had fun drawing them, especially in this style & making them prettier. Anastasia was definitely the nicest; it seemed she went more along with whatever Drizella did. Drizella seemed to take after her mother. As for the dresses, I'm glad you like the way I made them look. In the movie, their dresses had such drab colours, so I based the brighter colours on the women who dress up as them at WDW.

P.S. By the way, I like your icon/avatar. It's very happy & adorable.

Aloha! Thanks for the on this. I am very happy that you like this & that I added extra details/patterns to their dresses & Anastasia's hair. I had a lot of fun drawing the sisters, especially in this style since in the movie they aren't exactly what one would call "attractive". :-p

Grazie, Yivae. I am happy you like the roses I drew for the background and the way I did the ruffles at the end of their clothing. I liked colouring them with the brighter colours, especially since their dresses in the original movie have ugly colours!

This is actually Prismacolor coloured pencils. But thank you, I am happy that you liked the detail and texture in this. Ha ha...yeah, if the Tremaine sisters looked like this, I don't know if the Prince would have picked out Cinderella.

Bleh, I thought I read the description right... I dunno why I was thinking watercolors. I guess, every time I see your work, I keep imagining you working in watercolors. Well, to rephrase my previous statement a little, the extra texture the traditional mediums produce gives that nice effect.

Thanks! It's fun drawing Disney characters in my own style. I can probably draw Disney style in general but I prefer to draw the characters in my own way, to make it more unique. I'm happy you noticed the details. I was practicing with draping/folds of fabric on this piece (and the shading of them) and I'm pleased with how it came out.

Wow, great work! When I saw them at first I went like "where did I see these too before? I could swear that I know them... ", THEN I recognised them! They look *so* much prettier, you've managed something I've never thought possible, haha. xD Anyway, I love how you drew and painted their dresses, especially Anastasia's, she's a real beauty here. And I love their hands, incredibly well done. o.o

Why thank you! I'm happy that you say I "managed something I've never thought possible". I'm glad I am the first to do so. Anastasia seems the better looking of the sisters, so I'm glad you noticed that. I also want to really thank you for complimenting me on their hands! Out of all the body parts, hands (and especially feet!) are hard for me to draw.

Their proportions are greatand the curls in their hair are drawn very well. I love their fans too and the roses on the side are beautiful. You did an outstanding job on this I really love it.

Thank you, I'm glad you like this a lot (especially for the ). That's great you noticed their poses & expressions...you are the first person to mention it to me. I did make them look like they are mocking towards somebody (more than likely Cinderella) because they got to go to the ball & she didn't. (Good think the Fairy Godmother helped the girl out.) I wanted to make them look like they are bratty rich girls who think they own the world. But thank you once again for noticing the different details I put in.

Kayari-of-Midnight [2008-07-25 20:33:59 +0000 UTC]

This is so cool! I always thought that they would have seemed more "wicked" and stuck up if they had been pretty. Then they could have really had the mentality "Oh, I'm so pretty, the world deserves to look upon my loveliness!"
Anyways, the way you drew them is absolutely gorgeous.

And I know how you feel about the new DA layout. I hate it so very much...it takes forever to load, and now I can't even listen to music while on DA anymore.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AyaneShinobi In reply to Kayari-of-Midnight [2008-07-30 18:26:38 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for the on this! Yeah, I agree with you that they would be more wicked if they knew they were pretty...they would use that to their advantage (to treat people bad).

Oh yes, I'm still trying to get adjusted to DA's new layout. For some reason I just can't cooperate with it! I'm still trying to sort out everything in my message center. Even with deviations...I put "In Order By Artist" but it still doesn't put everything in order. I've also noticed it tends to freeze sometimes (and I use good computers too and it still lags a bit). Darn DA. Just wait....give it a few more months & they'll change it again.

You've developed your own Disney off-shoot. When i saw the thumbnail, I thought it was a disney. When I looked at the full-view, it looked more like a Country-Western 1800's stylization instead. And I much prefer this over Disney.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AyaneShinobi In reply to AndySerrano [2008-07-30 18:23:39 +0000 UTC]

Looks country-western to you? Ha ha, oh no, it wasn't mean to look like that but that's neat that you think so. I am not sure what part of the 19th century they are supposed to be in, so I couldn't base their dresses off a certain style. I also didn't want to change their outfits too much, since I wanted to keep true to their original designs. But I'm happy you like it. Disney draws in a pretty simple style, so I'm having fun drawing certain characters in a fancier style.

OMG you drew the stepsisters I don't know why, but I always found them much more interesting than Cinderella... as far as character designs go. I think the artists put more effort into their hairstyles and overall appearance; for some reason, the leading Disney girls like Cinderella never get the interesting hairstyles... And I'm so glad you made them pretty! Because in the Grimm brothers' version, the stepsisters are supposed to be very beautiful. Actually, I think they were supposed to be prettier than Cinderella (she was supposed to be plain and ordinary) o___O I'm also glad that you gave them more "womanly" figures. I was always a little dsiturbed by how flat-chested the stepsisters were in the film xP And congrats on pulling off those bright colors. I'm not brave enough to use hot pinks and bright greens and blues.... or any bright colors in general XDDD;;

Thank you so much for checking this out, especially for the on this (especially from you, that's an honor!) I was originally going to draw Cinderella but as you say, Drizella & Anastasia are more interesting. I never hated them in the movie (except when they tear Cinderella's first dress). Hmmm, you brought up a good point...it does seem like other characters have better designs than the leading ladies (and the stepsisters have better hair-styles than Cinderella. That reminds me, I can't wait until I see your Cinderella coloured in. ) I've never read the original version so I'll have to check that out as well (along with the original Little Mermaid). I'm also glad you noticed that I changed their proportions; I wonder why they were drawn so flat (and I doubt the girls binded themselves, lol). Thanks, I'm glad you like the colours; the brighter colours (as worn by the women in the Disneyworld/Land [still not sure of which particular park it is]) are prettier (since in the movie, the colour combinations are particulary flattering).

Seitou In reply to AyaneShinobi [2008-07-26 01:01:21 +0000 UTC]

The Grimm's Cinderella is really good, and so is the original Little Mermaid. But Andersen's version is really, really different from the Disney verion... and very depressing *actually cried when she read it* >O>;;

I think the designers made the sisters flat-chested just to make them even more unlady-like. A lot of the costumes in Cinderella seemed very Victorian-based, yet the stepsisters pretty much failed at Victorian ettiquete-- they were loud, obnoxious, mean, wore glaring colors, and couldn't even sing or play an instrument properly

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AyaneShinobi In reply to Seitou [2008-07-30 18:19:29 +0000 UTC]

I haven't read the original Cinderella but I finally got a hold of the original Little Mermaid. Wow...you're right about it being sad. She goes through so much (that was awful that it hurt her to walk) and doesn't even the man in the end. It was rather depressing, as you say. Hmm, seems like all the original fairy tales are either messed up or sad.

Hmmm, I wondered what type of era Disney was trying to draw when they did Cinderella. I'm only familiar with the Victorian Era style when it was near its end, but not when it first started out. Did the style change much? Ha ha, that's fun what you said about not being able to sing or play an instrument...they were horrible. I noticed in a lot of films (that take place in the 19th century) that the girls always played a piano and/or sang. If I lived back in that time, I'd probably fail since I can't sing to save my life...I'd scare all the lads away.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Seitou In reply to AyaneShinobi [2008-07-30 23:01:25 +0000 UTC]

XDDDDDD I can't sing or dance, so I'd fail miserably at being a Victorian lady. I think Cinderella really was a mix of the whole Victorian era, but mostly the 1880s-1890s. Drizella's hair was very 1840s, but she and Anastasia both wore bustle dresses, which I'm guessing were based off the 1880s bustle style. On the other hand, their mother's costume was VERY 1890s-- the trumpet-shaped skirt, tiny waist, puffy sleeves, etc. And, yeah, a lot changed during the Victorian era From 1837-1860, I think the evolution was pretty gradual, but from 1860-1901 (end of the Victorian era), there were 6 distinct styles of dresses. So, fashions changed really quickly towards the end.

And, yeah... Little Mermaid is so heartbreaking, but I like the original better. The whole theme of having to endure pain/hardship before finding hapiness is a lot more meaningful, I think.

Thank you so much (and for the on this). I'm happy that you say it's pretty. I wanted Drizella & Anastasia to be pretty (because they are just so hideous in the movie) but I also wanted them to look arrogant. I'll have more Disney to work on; I'll try to get at least one per week. It's fun to do this type of fan art, especially since the designs are simple (and I like to make things more detailed than they really are).
