Description
It's 2027, the digidestineds "evolved" into fine grown up adults and, while never forgeting about their digiadventures, sooner or later they had to learn how to find their own paths in both real and digi lives.
And both digidestineds and digimons went through lots of stages, especially the ones that involved sentimental relationships.
Hikari-chan and Takeru-kun were the ones whose relationship should had blooomed the earliest but took place later than wished, as both possessed beautiful souls yet an innate stubborness that could make the most wishful fan cry tears of desperation.
More than friends, less than lovers, sadly that was their own way of handling their relationship during school. Then, their way into adulthood and - perhaps fearful of looking beyong their own noses, puting aside their safety blanket known as "onii-chan complex" and properly confess-...life happened and without helping it, these soulmates drifted away and went through their own routes.
Yet, they missed each's company other very much. Even after dating other people and forming their own families...the feeling persisted.
The day the old team reunited, showing off their children and catching up with old stories, Hikari-chan 's heart ached. Just seeing him again time froze..in a good way.
" I was a fool. Saying that our relationship was too cute to be called love...my 12 year old self was sooo dense!" she sighed during the entire meeting, squinting at his silohuette without being able to resist...blushing when his eyes met hers and he would giggle when her cheeks blush like Mimi-chan's when talking about princes and princesses...
Also, she learned that Takeru-kun, like her, divorced a good while ago. Like Hikari, he might had married too soon with someone who seemed a good match but didn't work in the end. Hikari, during her short marriage never felt as cheerful and with a sense of affinity than with Takeru-kun in the past...and Takeru married a woman who ended valuing more her career than a family life and chose to move to another district, leaving husband and child for good and nowadays he was doing his best as both a novelist, digidestined and single father.
But he didn't seem to lament his status as a divorced fella, as he loved doting on his only child as much as Patamon. And speaking about children, Hikari and Takeru's hit it off almost immediately, becoming bffs in a single afternoon and so did their digimons.
Even after so many years, the digidestineds of Hope and Light had so much in common!
Nobody dared to say a thing but felt Fate crafting something over the Takari couple.
It was just a matter of time.
Hikari decided that golden ikemen should not remain free for much longer. Years ago, due to density she allowed the precious fish to swim away ...not anymore.
Sometimes, first love DOES work...even if years should pass first before being able to accept it.
So, that very same afternoon was Hikari who took the initiative by asking him out!
Subtlety first, of course, she made him promise her to share a coffee.
The following day, they went to a cafeteria , alone, to keep talking about the old times.
The very same week, Hikari-chan asked Takeru-kun out for lunch which evolved onto a "cinema and dinner" date.
During a festival, Hikari-chan decided to finally make him hers.
Tanabata Festival was about to take place, they could go together with their kids and while the children and gatomon and patamon were amusing themsleves with the stalls...she planned to take Takeru to a private place and confess under the stars.
Her plans were foiled by the weather (no stars were on stage, it rained during the entire day and it was still rainy-cloudy at night) and.... byTakeru himself!
Before she could mutter a single word that could lead to her confession, he spoke instead:
"Remember when you offered your umbrella when I was in the dumps, years ago...?" he opened a huge, red umbrella and placed it over their heads " Here's MY umbrella...but it should become OUR umbrella. What do you think, Hikari-chan...?"
That was his confession. Soft, subtle words spoken under a red umbrella.
" Yes, Takeru-kun. I don't want anybody else's umbrella...after so many years, no umbrella suits better for me than this uncute one" and she kissed his lips " Forever"
"fOREVER"

And that's how I imagine the Takari during the epilogue, fixing the hole left by the series or the capriccious mood of someone from Toei who offered a mediocre ending to an so-so second season and a wonderful first season.
In my mind, Takari will happen anytime, anywhere and in every single universe! XD
