Nice to see something other than wire-wrapping for a change. And I do love the organic shape, it looks like it could crumble between your fingers, yet you know it won't.

sweet. I was actually going to make one of these in studio tomorrow!

I LOVE foldforming. Did a course in it in Dec, but haven't had a chance to really play around with it. Just made a little sterling leaf pendant and now on to the bigger stuff

What thickness do you start with in silver? The majority of pieces I've formed thus far have been copper, so of course it's very different. I tried 0.6mm for my STG leaf, but not sure what thickness to go with for larger pieces. thoughts?

this is soo cool! But I'm afraid i don't understand the therm forming in this case...Was it just hammered over something?

Azach In reply to luthienancalime [2010-01-18 21:56:34 +0000 UTC]

Well... I probably something wrong translated Sorry..How to say this technique in English ?

nonparticipant [2010-01-15 15:59:21 +0000 UTC]

i have done something veryvery similar to this, Fold forging was a major focus of mine for 2 years of my schooling I'm afraid I don't have any of the pieces I forged the open sides posted to my gallery, but I have a few done in the other way.

I love the delicate texture you've gotten with the edges, but that tear is unfortunate. the metal fatigues much faster when it reaches such a thin gauge.

Unfortunately, everything has its pros and cons.. but I like this technique

nonparticipant In reply to Azach [2010-01-19 03:30:39 +0000 UTC]

oh I don;t have a problem with it. Its actually possible to do without getting the tearing or to accentuate the tearing effect depending on how your striking, the shape of your hammer and how often you anneal.
