most pieces i look at, scroll down, and comment on. This one, i need to keep in view while i comment... which i feel is a sign of a stunning artwork
Things that are initially striking are:
1) the indistinctness of the facial features
2) the grittiness of the hair
this makes me think of a ragdoll, a ragdoll that's been found in the mud or something. perhaps even a small child, like a ragdoll, but a real person, that's been found somewhere... maybe a back alley of some slum somewhere...
so little human contact has made this child mute, so her mouth is so indistinct to reflect that. the hair obscuring her eyes shows that she is no longer that interested in the outside world either.
this is a very bleak picture. but really well executed. full of character and meaning.
however, there is one bit i'm not too keen on... the white background is good, but the picture seems unceremoniously sliced off on the right-hand edge.
