I prefer his Japanese name to his English name, it's easier to remember.

I have always thought he was loosely based on Professor Layton.
His top hat, his trench coat and the fact he learns "Simple Beam" which "Sends a puzzling idea or sense to the opponent"

I also like his jap name better
