Sorry to say, but even Kique confirmed that Ranach's so-called "regret" is not true remorse for what he did; he is upset for himself, because he no longer has Rogio with him, to love and support him. He is not upset for Rogio's sake; he is only feeling sorry for himself. The featured comments on page 206 (one of which is my own) explain it better.
Never-the-less though, this is a beautiful picture.
