Description ...your money or your life!

"I'm the dandy highwayman who you're too scared to mention,
"I spend my cash on looking flash and grabbing your attention
"the devil take your stereo and your record collection
"the way you look you'll qualify for next year's old age pension!"

Dateline 2002. I get a spontaneous e-mail off my personal website from an ambitious Alabama girl who has just moved to California and makes art like there is no tomorrow. She likes my work, and wants to pick my brain about publishing, promotion, and creative outlets in general. How she found me - I don't know; why she chose me - I don't know! But I'm dead flattered, and I share what little knowledge I had about it at the time. We have a friendly exchange.

Dateline 2005. I'm spending a few days in the Los Angeles area with my friend Bryan Baugh and he extols to me the virtues of deviantART. He's been a member for a while, and tells me it's a great networking tool for artists. It makes sense to me, so I join. Thanks, Bryan!

A bit later, I'm going through some old e-mails, and I wonder if perhaps that California girl from Alabama ever got her career off the ground. A little poking around, and I find she has a gallery on deviantART as well, and it's MAGNIFICENT. So I sign up as a Watcher, to see what kind of madness she'll come up with next!

Natalie has that special kind of madness that most of us don't. She doesn't get hung up on the dark; the terrible; the unjust. She sees the silver linings everywhere, and flaunts them. And not in an ironic way; in the most sincere, contagiously positive way imaginable. She's above it all. And it's not a neurosis - she is deadly serious about whimsy. And she makes pretty pictures, too

So this is a picture of my friend Natalie. She's one of the few people I know who is a bigger fan of the post-punk/new wave movement than even I am; yet she's also steeped in 17th-century European historical fashion as well. What better synthesis of the two, than the Dandy Highwayman persona of Adam Ant, on his Prince Charming record, doing Stand and Deliver?

So in the grand New Wave tradition, here's the 1680-meets-1980 fashion of Adam Ant, with hairstyle cues from Missing Persons' Dale Bozzio.

Keep up that great work, Natalie!

Hey I know that lady! I think I saw her in the super market once!
I shall be sharing your's in my gallery as soon as I can steal a minute.
I must say, your description of both events, and the way my art is perceived was both enlightening and fascinating in the extreme!(And no, I am not being sarcastic)
The way others perceive my work and anything else about me is truly wild and intriguing.
I'm still very humbled, thank you Andy.

It indeed has a sort of reckless abandon that you don't hear often. Thanks, Zac

Likewise. Like so many of those early-80's hit-makers, the rest of his catalogue is quite unlike, and far superior to, his "hits". Thank you; glad you like
