Wow. Now THOSE are marble columns. Great job. Marble's a hard stone to get right.

Thank You. It's all traditional. This piece was planned a little more/better than usual for me. It took me two months from concept to completion.
Hope all's well on your end. Anything new coming?

It wasn't two months solid. Total time was some where around 40 maybe 50 hours. I changed the comp several times until I found something that worked. I didn't want it to look mechanical. Finding the right reference was murder as usual. I kept putting a mean guy with a sword in the back but it never worked. I wanted her to be the dominator not the possible victim. So I found a reference from an old 1950's beefcake pic of a man tied to a pole and modified it. I painted him in normal flesh colors then I airbrushed a transparent cerilain (not sure of the spelling) blue. Then I highlighted him with a light blue. He blended into the background just right. The primary subject (queen/goddess) was originally a model named Aria Giavanni. She's naturally curvy and matched some of Frazetta's women.
I change her face and made her a blond so she would pop off the back. Working the back light is always tricky. There's a fine line between realism and graphic sometimes. The tiger was a body from one and a head from another to give it a little more emotion. The rest was created on the fly. I used a lot more brush work and less airbrush in the mountain details and work out really well. I airbrushed in the haze of coarse. I'm glad that you like it. I'm working on another one. Hope to have it done within the next two weeks. The primary subject in this one will be a male. (New territory for me LOL)

Yeah usually for any of my bigger paintings I just work on and off again on them for a couple months rather then all at once also. Reference hunting and thinking usually takes more time then doing the acutal painting. You can never find the reference you are looking for it seems. I try to pick the reference photo first then decide what I want to do with it, but doesn't work if you already know what you want. I like to usally go with victoria secret models. Some of the girls are a bit to thin for my liking, but theres a few that have a lot more nautral curvy bodies that work out really well. I have a virtual pose book thats very helpful also. It has photos of the model in 6 different views of the same pose in the book, but also comes with a cd you can put in and turn the model to the exact position you want. You did a great job of making it have a Frazetta like look and keeping it your style. I'm sure your man painting will turn out just fine haha.

Thank You. You never know with these type of shows. Bisley and Brom are two of the judges. So the standards are pretty high

Thank you. I've got a lot going on so It's been hard to get to my personal work lately. I Believe that it's more about the subject as apposed to the style. I don't know If this piece covers either of them but we'll see what the judges think. Two of the judges are Bisley and Brom. That's some pretty high standards.

I'll keep you posted. Don't know if they'll be there or not. The model putting on the show is Veronika Kotlijac. She's been on several Heavy Metal Covers and has two published books. She's knows a lot of people high up in the industry so there's a good chance that they will be.
