Honestly, Lights Out is the only horror movie that has really gained my interest, so I feel like it’s underrated and doesn’t get enough fan art.

I think the movie has a great twist, my main issue with it is I don't like the main character, but beside that
it is a descent enough horror movie and I agree it doesn't get enough of fanart.

Actually, I kind of like the main protagonists. I think one source of praise for the film is that it’s protagonists aren’t just flat characters for the villain to mow down. There’s meaningful and memorable characterization to them.
You know, if you feel there should be more Lights Out fan art, you could make some beyond this single reference here.

I guess for me personally I felt she could be very annoying, but I agree she's not like
the usual horror protagonist you see in horror movies, so that's a plus for her.
I know I just currently don't have any ideas for fan art involving the movie, if I do
think of something I definitely will draw it.

I’ve got an idea for a sequel (which is supposed to happen, if you didn’t know, but there hasn’t been news on it in years).

I did hear about a potential sequel but haven't heard any updates regarding it.
I do wonder how it'll play off.
What's your idea for a sequel?

WickerDan In reply to Bakhtak [2020-03-13 21:11:46 +0000 UTC]
I apologize in advance if it ends up sounding dumb or cringy. I’ve never really gotten anyone’s opinion on this concept before.
I’ve got a couple ideas for how it would begin. A flashback, but I can’t decide if that flashback is of police responding to the murder from the beginning of the 1st movie, Diana taking out the power to the neighborhood, or Diana killing Rebecca’s father. Either way, the flashback could reinforce how while horror villains often hide themselves and their activities from authorities and public, Diana is rather reckless in that regard.
After that, cue the opening credits, and it moves to the present, which is pretty much right where the first movie left off. Not the exact moment the first one ended, but there’s still people at Sophie’s house dealing with the aftermath of the climax. The main character is introduced, a cop (who I don’t have a name for). The plot really kicks off with Sophie’s funeral, which is interrupted when the vehicle carrying Sophie’s coffin is stolen. Not long after, Diana reappears in the lab where her ashes were being studied.
From there on, Lights Out 2 is a mystery regarding the theft of Sophie’s body and Diana’s return, which the new main character is trying to solve with help from Rebecca (and possibly Bret and Martin). Along the way, they encounter Project Xero, a government committee dedicated to dealing with the strange circumstances surrounding Diana Walter.
Near the end, the truth is revealed. Diana’s mother was the one who stole Sophie’s body. She had resurrected Sophie and was using her as bait for Diana, so that she could “at least, get to see her baby again”. It is revealed that she had gotten involved in some magic affairs (relating to how she is able to resurrect people) before having Diana and ended up being gifted with never ending youth (meaning she can be killed, but she is stuck with the body of a 20-something and hypothetically could live forever) at the cost of a curse being placed on her daughter. That curse had three distinct effects on Diana: psychic powers, a bizarrely case of Xeroderma Pigmentosum (the disorder that makes sunlight dangerous; the unnatural rate at which damage from the condition formed and artificial light burning her were the first signs that something was wrong), and becoming a Shade after death (I don’t think this is a canon term, but I’ve heard people call the kind of ghost Diana is this).
And at the very end of the movie, a relative of one of the characters goes through a recreation of the original Lights Out short... complete with the monster design from the short, meaning that this nightmarish figure isn’t Diana.

That is an interesting concept for a sequel,
although instead of having the cop be the main character it could be same girl from the previous movie
and maybe her be haunted by Diana, or at least she thinks she's being haunted.
I do like the idea recardig resurrection and Diana somehow return.

I suspected they would do it. Carpenter never liked the idea of making them brother and sister. He used this thing in the sequels just because he could keep the copyright. Honestly, in the original version ,this thing had not been very well managed. On the contrary, I loved how they did it in Rob Zombie's films.

I just found out recently that Carpenter didn't like the idea,
but I can see it being interesting to not have them being siblings, but I would still
wonder what their relation will be, if they even will have any.
I loved it in Zombie's films too, I just wish Laurie wasn't so fucking annoying XD

Honestly I find that they were sliblings kinda meh? I mean why go back to kill his sister because she wasn't born yet and he didn't killed his
his parents as well.
I think Mikeal goes after teenagers because...some reason, I'm guessing his sister neglect him while she was babysitting him because
she invited boys over so she told him to hide and stay quiet
Or (and I think its pretty realistic) He did because there is no reason.

I did like them being siblings, I thought it was scary to have a brother trying to kill his sister than a completely stranger.
Could be, would be a good reason.

It's going to interesting why he left her alone for so long and why she returns after all this time.
Also I read that Carpenter originally didn't want them to be siblings and he only did Halloween 2 to keep the royalties for future films.

Oh yes that too O3O
I had no idea, but I guess if even the creator didn't want them to be siblings it's more canon than we thought :/
Though the sibling twist was very clever.

It just makes you wonder what happened in the days after that fateful night.
Just like Craven wanting Freddy to be a pedo instead of a killer in life making the remake version more canon to Craven's vision.
And so iconic.

Aw yes true, I gues today the original creators of the characters have a chance to
turn make them the way they orignally wished for.

Except Craven wasn't involved with the remake at all unlike Carpenter is on this film. I hope a bloody trailer is released soon, I want to see how Halloween 2018 will look.

But he did originally attend to make Freddy a pedo, but scrapped it.
Yes give us the trailer already! I wanna see oldman Michael!

I want to see badass Laurie and why she has to go back!

I don't know, he had this weird obsession with her since he was responsible for her being born crippled (that's the reason he became a doll in the first film now) and he wanted her to be his new body. It's even weirder since Dourif's daughter plays her so...
And a strong granny to boot!

Even James, host of Kill Count, said it didn't make sense since he had an accomplice for something so it's all retconed now.
And it makes you wonder if she'll return in the sequels or just ignore her like they did with the children.

Bakhtak In reply to LDboy [2018-06-29 21:07:37 +0000 UTC]
Exactly, but then again the director, or writer, doesn't give much shit about story continuity,
so we'll probably won't get to see her again.

I guess since in Seed they weren't dolls, just animatronics made to look like them for a movie.
And yet we keep getting Tiffany back, in Tilly's body no less and split into another doll body, so who knows.

Bakhtak In reply to LDboy [2018-07-02 22:59:04 +0000 UTC]
Aaah that's true.
Yeah exactly, so we can just wait and see what else they'll come up with for the Chucky franchise.
(that's basically the name of the franchise now)

LDboy In reply to Bakhtak [2018-07-02 23:43:53 +0000 UTC]
And since they now have a new spell to put their souls, or whatever it is that makes them them, into multiple bodies they're probably back to being dolls again.
Things are just getting weird with the proposed ones so they might as well do the obligatory In Space film.
