Description Hellou! I'm not dead.
I was listening to Seul by Garou while this was saving, hence the title.

This is a portrait of the main character of my NaNoWriMo novel that I am currently writing. Her name is Thyra, she's in her thirties, and she's about to unveil a mystery that has been going for many years...

Critiques are very much appreciated... It's tough to get back into art after not drawing for a long time. Looking back I feel I should have shaded the neck by the hair more, because it seems like she has kind of a narrow neck, but it's just covered by hair... Thoughts?
Also, something seems very odd about her face, but flipping the image didn't help me figure out what..

Now, back to NaNo and commissions.

Hello! I'm from

The colors you used here are quite cohesive and, while not particularly realistic, look good! The eyes are probably the strongest part of this drawing, the dark makeup around them really make them stand out from the rest of the drawing while not making them look completely separate. Her expression is subtle but definitely gives off a determined look, which seems to fit with your story of solving mysteries. The angle of the head looks pretty good, the only issue I see there is the mouth, since it looks a bit too narrow and small compared to everything else, and the face does look a little long (though it's barely noticeable, references of a face that looks vaguely like the character would help with this!). She does look her age, which is something a lot of artists tend to struggle with, and the little freckles on her face and neck were a nice touch! The background, while simple, isn't really distracting and justifies the purple lighting you used throughout the drawing.

On to the critiques, the main problem I see with this drawing is that, while the values in the hair, clothes, and eyes look fine, the skin is very low contrast, which makes it look quite flat. Using a reference to see the planes of the head, such as an asaro head, would really help with adding more form to the face! It's kind of unclear as to where the light source is coming from, mostly due to the lack of value or clear forms in the face. The little white specks everywhere look a bit strange to me, though that's personal preference. I just feel they make everything look weirdly shiny, out of place, and plastic-y, especially her face.

Overall, this drawing looks really good! While the values are a bit wonky, the colors and the way you drew her make it look appealing. It definitely makes me want to know more about the character and your story!

I am an amateur artist, so my criticism is not that of an expert. but I like this portrait, because it has a soul.
I think it's done with a very simple technique, but at the same time very good. It is a simple portrait, without decorations, but very clean and very well made. At least I think so.

Hello, here with a comment from

So for a portrait of a character you created from your imagination, you did a great job in making them look very realistic. It can be difficult drawing a fictional character with realistic proportions without making them look stylized if some fashion. I think the only parts of the character that fall a bit short are her lips, which look very small in proportion to her face, and her head. The top of the head area looks pointed, for lack of a better word. The way to fix this is basically just to make the head rounder, and extend the back of her head. Here's a tutorial to give a better idea of what the human head looks like.

Now on to the coloring. The shading is nice and smooth for the most part, especially in the hair. Hair can be tough to render without making it look stiff and straw-like. The only issue i have with the coloring, is that the character's skin looks very pink. It looks like there's a purple lighting on the character's face, but if that's the case, then the lighting should be more visible in her hair at on her clothes, that way it would create a sense of light shining on the character, instead of making it seem her skin is a very bright color. Another suggestion; sometimes when it comes to light, it doesn't always have to be blended in. Sometimes making the light a solid line can work just as well, and not mess with the color of a character's skin. But that's about the only discrepancies i have. I see you added some details that make it look like there's pores in the skin. It makes the portrait all the more life-like.

That's the end of my comment! Great job on this portrait and i hope my comment is helpful to you

Hello! Coming over here from
I will be conducting this critique within these sections!

Concept And Creativity-

Let us begin!
_______________________
Concept and Creativity-
Good on you on not making a female character beautifully flawless. She looks amazing, Mostly because she looks like a real human being. I could imagine her in real life. She looks tall. It’s very difficult for human characters to look original, especially since the black hair and green eye combo has been done to death (heck I have a character with it despite that) but since she has so much detail and so many wonderfully reconzible traits (which I’ll get more into within the anatomy section) she does look extremely unique. I mean- the whole concept of a portrait isn’t that special, but the character definitely is.
Anatomy-
I just adore her nose. It isn’t very attractive in a good way. It’s quite blunt but realistic showing that someone can be beautiful despite imperfections. Her sharp edges and jawline are also great. I also like her freckles. The hair as well falls and is shaped very naturally.
Shading-
It does it’s job pretty well. Though it’s not spectacular or in my opinion or your strongest element- it still shapes the face beautifully and is used very intelligently. I think though to make it even better it should be blurred less and the shadows more intense along with the highlights,
Line art-
It’s seriously amazing you’re doing this without lines. Just saying-
What you’re doing right-
Your strongest element I think is character design and anatomy. You did fantastic on those areas.

I'm glad she looks rather realistic in her design! Funny that you say she looks tall, because the way she's described in my story is indeed quite tall.
I'm glad the nose looks good as well.
I seem to get a lot of critique that talks shading, looks like it will be something I'll have to dedicate some time to practicing.
I used to draw using lines. Definitely not for my sketchy hand!

Thank you for the critique and the favorite! I'll look into some shading tutorials next time
