This is an update of a plain text poem I wrote back in 2018
EmptinessWhen you peel the masks away
Like a thousand rose petals
Scattered upon cruel winds
Will even my memory remain
Upon this desolate battlefield
I am but the ghost of myself
Trying to match life's rhythm
But the dance makes no sense
And my lips are sewn shut
So my voice doesn't reach you
I am like a chord that is lost
Beneath the madding melody
A haunting invisible presence
That is only felt but not seen
A dream drowned by the dawn

Recently I have been talking with blessedout about a poem of hers. I didn't think of my own poem at the time, but subsequently EmrysReverie favorited it and brought the memories flooding back. Since it was written before my visual poetry phase, I decide it was a perfect time to update it.

I would like to dedicate it to the original deviant I wrote it for who is no longer on DA, and to blessedout . It reminded me so much of the situation we spoke of that so inspired my imagination, desperately trying to reach a friend in a very dark place. Sometimes we do all we can do but it just never feels like enough, never feels like it is REALLY making a difference.

Sometimes all we can do is hope and pray that the darkness will not swallow them completely, because they are so precious and irreplaceable to us. When the person we are trying so hard to reach is a very dear friend, it can be the most helpless and terrifying place to be to see them slowly drowning in darkness.

If you are in that dark place, please don't suffer alone. Our pain tends to drive us to isolate ourselves. It convinces us that no one wants to deal with that much pain, or people flat out tell us to stop whining, belittling our pain. But there really are caring people who will truly understand, who will care enough to welcome you WITH all your baggage. Find a hotline, a counselor. or a caring friend. Don't let the pain trick you into caring all that weight yourself. The world really will eat you alive if you let it.
