I remember when I met my first friend who had lived in the middle east many years ago.
I went to college out near Portland, Oregon. One day some of us from the concert choir
were hanging out together, and someone quoted Matthew 5:45,

"...for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good,
and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous." (NASV)

The person quoting it meant it the way most of us do, likely complaining about
the nigh incessant winter rains. A strange grin crossed my friend who had lived
in the middle east's face. He quickly pointed out that we have a very unusual
prejudice about that verse. He said over in Israel if the Sea of Galilee climbs
it banks by even an inch it will make the evening news. He said when that
happens, the very next day you will see many more happy faces walking
the streets than normal. Maybe that is why he wanted to go
to college in such a rainy climate as Oregon.
