My version of the story:
Β Β Β There was a small hidden village, deep into the woods, where only witches dwell. The redheadedΒ sextuplets, as they were called in the village, were six young sisters, who were known for their mischief, playfulness, silliness, and energetic behavior, as young folk often do. But they were also very responsible young ladies, who never misused witchcraft. One day, one of their familiars, the black cat Mr. Chubbynoodle, was acting strangely. He might have caught a familiar sickness, one of the sextuplets thought. The girls panicked, but the smartest one of them (I'm thinking that would be the one who is facing opposite us in the picture and has slightly bent over for some reason) proposed they'd take Mr. Cubbynoodle to the vet for familiars. Since the six girls had no family left and were too young to make ointments involving hallucinogenic herbs like Atropa Belladonna, they couldn't really cast the spell which could make the broom fly, so they had to take the bus. They sat down at the bus stop, and there, between them, sat an elderly lady. The sextuplets, being energetic and youthful, were gossiping, teasing each other and laughing loudly as they were waiting there for the bus to pick them up. Soon enough, the old lady got annoyed and sprung onto her feet witch an angered groan.
"You six are making so much noise! Can't a witch get a bit of silence?" she yelled, making the six sisters look at her in surprise and a bit ofΒ embarrassmentΒ as well. Again, the smartest one turned to the old lady and smiled pleasantly.
"Excuse our manners, oh, dear madame!" she apologized with her soft voice. "To make it up to you, I shall let you hear my friend, Mr. Coo-coo Tunes, sing." she added, as a yellow swallow flew onto the girl's hand and started singing a soothing song. As the song went on, the old lady didn't feel mad anymore, but found the six sisters very pleasant and smart. They talked about things such as potions, herbs, food, music and games. When the yellow swallow familiar stopped singing, the bus had already arrived and took the girls to the vet. Mr. Chubbynoodle had a minor case of familiar cold, the witch doctor diagnosed. He gave the cat a potion and it was as good as new. And so, the girls lived happily ever after.

Thoughts at first glance: The old witch cast a spell to create a helper(/"familiar") for herself... (maybe 'cause her cat was gettin' really old and was on it's way out...?) but the spell went awry, and now she has six identical bothersome youths to cope with. And, being a "good" witch, she didn't have the heart to turn them out. How annoying. They're about as helpful as can be expected from a gaggle of teenage girls... *sigh*

The only story I can form is suspiciously like Zero no Tsukaima (Familiar of Zero). You know, that anime where one of the witches-in-training summon a human as a companion, whilst everyone else gets a pet-like thing? I pictured the granny in the middle to be the Familiar of the girl who has her back turned, 'cause everyone else seems to be making fun of her. :/

The story: Once there lived an old lady, Fanny was her name if I recall it right. She had a small problem you see, nothing too much out of ordinary. Her sight was weakening from old age and she was slowly going blind. One day she was walking through the magic woods next to her town, she met there a little girl who was crying.
"What's wrong, my dear child?" Fanny asked.
"My sisters abandoned me here in the woods because I don't look like they do." the girl cried strong tears, it really wasn't a sight. The old lady smiled and gave the young girl her hand and helped her up.
"Wipe those tears, my dear. And let me help. I might be extremelly near sighted, but I'm sure I'll be still able to help you."
The girl smiled with some shyness and nodded, there was no other way.
"Now for the starters, what do your sisters look like?" Fanny asked, her voice croaked.
"They have orange hair and they're about 8 centimeters taller than I am. They're sectuplets, you see."
"Well I think they'll stand out a lot in these woods don't you think?"
The little girl nodded. She giggled, boy oh boy, she was feeling better already.Hand in hand they went on their journey.
The searched all day and they only found the little girl's house. But no sister. It was starting to get dark so they decided to stop their journey there.
The girl ran inside the house, she asked Fanny to wait a bit. When the girl came back she gave Fanny a pair of glasses.
"Those belonged to my mom. But I'm sure you'll need them more than a soul.."
The granny put them on and everything became clearer. She thanked the little girl and went back to her town. On her way she saw a bus stop and decided to rest there for a bit. Just a bit. She wasn't young anymore, and boy her legs were hurting.
She sat there for a minute as syddenly 6 exactly the same looking girls sat next to her. Their faces were worried. "Dear God, if dad finds out what we did to Nancyn he'll definitely punish us. Why couldn't that troublesome kid just follow us, like a dog would?"
Fanny looked at them and immediately recognized them as the sisters of the troubled girl.
"Well, the Nancy you're speaking of is at home and is waiting for you. What you did was really bad."
The girls laughed. "Oh dear, a mere mortal dares to speak to us like that. Shall we punish her, maybe?"
The girls stood up from the bench and attacked the poor lady. They broke her glasses, her nose and her back. They ate her arms and feet. She was broken unto unrecognition.
The girls chained the poor lady to a tree and written on her "Bus Stop". But no one would ever come to see her. The woods disappeared with Fanny together.
So you see, she might have helped the little girl, there came no recognition. She got mocked and punished for being nice. But as a soul she had her revenge. The girls were trolls who lived in the forest, they didn't grow up with manners. Now every night Fanny haunts them in their sleep, they brought it upon themselves.

How about this for a story. The title Familiars, the old woman's hat, and the girls' uniforms bring to mind the idea of witches in training. There are really four girls plus old woman sitting on the bench for the bus. The Girl on the far right holding a stack of papers first summons a yellow bird familiar to show off to the other girls. The girl right next to her between the woman summons a familiar that looks like herself, the copy is on the far right leaning inward. As this is happening, the two girls on on the left and closest to the woman have a similar show off with the center most summoning a black cat in a cage. The Far left girl, who is currently turned away from the viewer, summons her own copy and turns around to find something in her bag when the copy makes a face at the cat holding girl, who retaliates. The old woman in the center might have been the one that taught them to summon familiars but is now wondering what is taking that bus so long.

This is beautiful! The way you used a similar and great color scheme is very effective and I love how all the characters have the same designs...and yet they are all so unique! It's ingenious how you did that!
