Description Portal 2.5 Reader Insert Chapter 12
By: bdaybear30

Why? Why did this have to happen? Now I am falling down a pit towards who knows where after Wheatly became furious at me.

“Oh. Hi. So. How are you holding up. BECAUSE I’M A POTATO.” I hear a familiar voice. I also hear what sounds to be slow clapping. “Oh, good. My slow clap processor made it into this thing. So we have that.”

I look down and see that the potato with GlaDOS’ eye attached is falling with me. “I would be better if you hadn’t made him angry.” I say my voice dripping with bitterness.

“It’s not my fault that he couldn’t handle the truth of what he is.” she retorts.

“Didn’t you, the oh so smart and powerful GlaDOS have even the smallest thought that perhaps anybody would be upset at finding out that there whole purpose of existing was to make someone else be an idiot, and that it would not be wise to tell that to someone who just took over your body?!” I say only growing more and more angry.

She doesn’t say anything for a little while as she continue to fall/float around me. “Are you done?” she asks me.

I can’t help but sigh. “I am done yelling at the moment, yes. Being angry with you? Not so much.”

“Well, since it doesn’t look like we’re going anywhere … Well, we are going somewhere. Alarmingly fast, actually. But since we’re not busy other than that, here’s a couple of facts. He’s not just a regular moron. He’s the product of the greatest minds of a generation working together with the express purpose of building the dumbest moron who ever lived. And you just put him in charge of the entire facility.” she explains to me in that irritated voice of hers and doing the slow clapping again. “Good, that’s still working.”

“Well, if you hadn’t been so manipulative and, well, evil. Maybe I wouldn’t have felt like I had no other choice.” I retort back to her.

We end up glaring at each other for a little while. Until we both, I suppose, get bored and begin looking around the tube for a way out.

“Hey, just in case this pit isn’t actually bottomless, do you think maybe you could unstrap one of those long fall boots of yours and shove me into it? Of course, you’ll have to fall on one foot.” she asks me.

Oh, so NOW she’s worried about falling. “Oh, sure. Just remember I have been wearing these boots for as long as I can remember so they will probably smell, just great!” I say sarcastically happy.

I can feel her glaring at me. “On second thought never mind.” Yeah that’s what I thought!

I look below us just in time to notice that we are falling towards several planks of wood covering the hole we are quickly falling down. I have just enough time to brace my legs before I hit and break through three layers of wood planks and I am once again surrounded in darkness.

The next time I open my eyes I have stopped falling and am staring up towards the ceiling. I see on an upper platform, GlaDOS in her new potato body being pecked at by a bird. I involuntarily groan and apparently startle the bird which picks up GlaDOS and flies away.

I stand up slowly feeling sore all over my body, but it doesn’t feel like anything is broken. My legs, suddenly, become very wobbly and I fall over into a puddle of … water? I drag myself away from the questionable substance and rest myself against a large column nearby. As I rest I can’t help myself as I begin to go through everything that has happened to me. I begin to bring everything together from that time so far in the past to the ordeals I have been through recently and compared that to what Wheatly was talking about. This time I can’t stop the tears from streaming down my face.

I end up staying there for what feels like hours just trying to process everything and work it over in my head. Until finally I end up just staring numbly towards the ceiling. Until, I remember something else from when I was little. The man from before with the face I can’t quite make out saying, “When you have fallen all the way to the bottom, the only way to go is up.”

I attempt to stand again and I find that I am more stable than I was before. I make sure that the portal gun is still attached to my arm securely. “Well, he’s right. The only way to go now is up. Maybe if I go up high enough I can find Wheatly. Then I can say that I am sorry I try to fix this.”  I say to myself.

I make my way out of the room I fell in and find myself surrounded by decaying ruins of large structures. I am able to use the portal gun to make my way through this … wasteland and strange fluids and rusted metal. Until, I find myself at a large round cover with two smaller room on either side of it. I remember this from one of the tests GlaDOS put me though. I push the button on in one room and quickly use portals to push the other button within a few seconds of each other.

When I do this I hear a loud siren as the main lights darkened and are replaced with a spinning spotlight on the cover. I watch in awe as the cover is slowly brought upwards revealing a much smaller door. I walk down the walkway and enter this new door. I end up on another walkway that is over a huge lake of that strange liquid and there are large rusted spheres all around. I also see a large staircase leading upwards that I cannot access.

I portal past one of the half destroyed doors into a smaller hallway. I can see a large sign that says Aperture with a round symbol next to it. I side the symbol is a bunchy of loops that fall out as I walk closer. As I walk even closer music begins to play and I hear a voice. “Welcome, gentlemen, to Aperture Science. Astronauts, war heroes, Olympians – you’re here because we want the best, and you are it. So: Who is ready to make some science.”

The voice sounds familiar but I can’t remember where I would have heard it before. Another voice cuts in. “I am!” Why do I feel like I know these voices. My head begins to hurt as I try to remember. Apparently, not all of my memories have returned to me just yet.

I hear the first voice laughing. “Now, you already met one another on the limo ride over, so let me introduce myself. I’m Cave Johnson. I own the place.”

Cave? That sounds familiar too. “Hi … Cave.” I find myself saying.

“That eager voice you heard is the lovely Caroline, my assistant. Rest assured, she has transferred your honorarium to the charitable organization of your choice. Isn’t that right Caroline?” he asks … Caroline.

She responds with, “Yes sir, Mister Johnson.”

“She’s the backbone of this facility. Pretty as a postcard, too. Sorry, fellas. She’s married. To science. And to my personal friend.” he says really giving a lot of credit to her.

My head continues to hurt as I try to remember, so I end up just ignoring it for now and using the portal gun to fly through the circular symbol and to the exit door. I walk through and end up in some kind of lobby with old fashioned furniture.

“There’s a thousand test performed every day here in our enrichment spheres. I can’t personally oversee every one of them, so these pre-recorded messages’ll cover any questions you might have, and respond to any incidents that may occur in the course of your scientific adventure. Your test assignment will vary, depending on the manner in which you have bent the world to your will.” I hear Cave say over the intercom. Wow, this place must have been a really big deal when this was in use.

Cave continues, “Those of you helping us test the repulsion gel today, just follow the blue line on the floor. Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I’ve got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we’re postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we’ve got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men. Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You’ll know when the test starts.” A big deal yes, but maybe not the smartest.

I look around the old fashioned lobby and adjoining offices. I find a picture with a plaque saying that this is Cave Johnson. He is a young and energetic looking man. Next to the picture is a glass case with a number of scientific awards for Aperture. It is quite impressive.

I walk past some sliding doors that lead back out to the large lake and onto the walkway to the stairs that I couldn’t reach before. I see that inside is an elevator so I opt to take that instead. I ride it all the way up as far as it will go. I end up needing to use portals to get to the next area after falling all the way back down the elevator shaft to get enough momentum.

I go through a door and into what looks like a control room. I see a large lever that reads Pump Station Alpha. I push the lever and hear mechanism come to life and start working It sounds like they haven’t worked in a very long time. I work my way up and out of the room and down over a tube that leads to an elevator.

As I make my way to it Cave cuts in saying, “They say science is built on the shoulders of giants. Not here. At Aperture, we do all our science from track. No hand holding”

I am not really sure what he means by that but maybe if I got through this place then I’ll find my way back up. I need to get back to Wheatly, he did all that work to get to me, now it’s my turn.
