“Well, you know the old formula: Comedy equals tragedy plus time. And you have been asleep for a while. So, I guess it’s actually pretty funny when you do the math.” says GlaDOS as I exit the elevator.

“I don’t understand. You keep talking like I should know about something. What happened?” I ask trying to get some answers out of her. However, she doesn’t respond, not even a witty comeback. I manage to get through the next test but I take WAY longer than I thought it would I have to work hard if I am going to get back to Wheatly.

As I finish the test and head to the usual elevator GlaDOS begins to speak again after her long silence. “I thought about our dilemma, and I came up with a solution that I honestly think works out best for one of both of us.”

“And I’m guessing I’m not that on who benefits am I?” I ask back my voice dripping with sarcasm, but I don’t care I only have four more test chambers to go.

“Probably not.” is al she says.

After I have descended down to the next test GlaDOS starts talking to me again. “Federal regulations require me to warn you that this next test chamber … is looking pretty good.”

I step through the door and I see a fully white room. No traces of dirt or debris anywhere. Oh, no.

“That’s right. The facility is completely operational again.” she says sounding very pleased with her accomplishment.

I start to shake. I feel that this is very familiar, that I have seen this like how it is now before. My head begins to ache as I try to remember again just what could be causing these feelings. Wait, what am I doing? I should be getting through this test not freaking out I can try to remember later what I have to do now is GET TO WHEATLY!

I use the lasers in the room to finish the puzzle. As I am exiting GlaDOS, once again decides to speak. “I think these test chambers look even better than they did before. It was easy, really. You just have to look at things objectively, see what you don’t need anymore, and trim out the fat.”

I can tell she is talking about me but as I ride the elevator I can’t help but wonder why she is being so harsh against me. I haven’t done anything bad to her, have I?

I reach the end of this elevator just as GlaDOS begins to speak. “I’ve got a surprise for you after this next test. Not a fake, tragic surprise like last time. A real surprise, with tragic consequences. And real confetti this time. The good stuff. Our last bag. Part of me’s going to miss it, I guess – but at the end of the day it was just taking up space.” Her voice deepens somewhat on the last word making it sound much more threatening.

A chill runs up my spine. ‘Calm down –(name)-, you only have to go a couple more chambers.’ I say to myself in my head.

I start working my way through the test when suddenly the light bridge that I am currently standing on goes out and I am dropped onto the floor that was, thankfully, underneath.

“What’s going on? Who turned off the lights?” I hear GlaDOS asking.

I smile to myself as I have a few ideas as to who did this.

“Hey, buddy!” I hear from a wall to my left, in a very odd version of the voice I love. I turn and see Wheatly in an opening in the wall, I run over with the largest smile spread across my face. Finally! Now we can get out!

“What are you doing with you voice?” I ask him honestly being curious, it is very odd.

“I’m speaking in an accent that is beyond her range of hearing …” he explains.

“Look – little man, I CAN hear you.” says GlaDOS. Well that didn’t work.

“Run! I don’t have to do the voice. RUN!” Wheatly yells to me quickly. The rest of the wall opens up and gives me access to the hallway behind the chamber. I bolt as fast as I can to get out of there. I travel along a light bridge onto a rail and keep running with Wheatly urging me on. “Okay, quick recap: We are escaping! That’s what’s happening now: we’re escaping. So, you’re doing great. Just keep running!” I follow along the rail as fast as I can and I start to hear mechanical sounds from the walls that seem to be trying to keep up with us making it seem like GlaDOS is trying to chase.

“Quick word about the future plans that I’ve got in store.” I hear Wheatly say from his chair. “We are going to shut down her turret production line, turn off her neurotoxin, and then confront her. Again though, for the moment, run!”

As I turn around a corner I hear GlaDOS speak again. “The irony is that you were almost at the last test.” A wall to my left opens up revealing a fairly simple test compared to the ones before. “Here it is. Why don’t you just do it? Trust me, it’s easier way out than whatever asinine plan your friend came up with.”

I notice a hard light bridge from the test stretches beyond the room and off to the right. “Oh, what? How stupid does she think we are?” I hear Wheatly whine from behind me.

I run to the hard light bridge and use it to run over the gap that is in the opposite direction from the test it goes out just as I am over a lower platform that I continue to run along. I can feel my legs starting to tire out but I CAN’T stop now. If I do I am as good as dead. I run in between to large boxes, one above me and one below me, and walls form all around me and turrets are placed all around me. One manages to shoot me in the shoulder before I launch it into two others knocking them out. I can hear Wheatly screaming outside telling me to be careful.

I quickly manage to use a white wall to portal to another rail on the outside of the room, where I meet up with Wheatly and I continue running as he leads me from his chair. Another room opens up showing yet another turret that I can’t reach, so I simply keep running and it manages to shoot my left hip before I am out of its range. It hurts, but I can’t think about it now.

We run into yet another and much larger room. I spy what looks like a rudimentary elevator on the other side of the room. I run for along the rail with Wheatly telling me that that is our exit. I hear things shifting around me and the walls begin to come closer to me. “She’s bringing the whole place down! HURRY!” Wheatly screams.

Everything starts to fall down around me as metal and electronics are ripped away and fall around, as if they are trying to reach for me. I push myself to run faster than I ever have before, my vision becomes blurry and almost red as I push myself beyond my physical limits. The walls and beams are about to crush me just as I leap for my life into the lift and crumple to the floor. “We made it we made it we made it…” I hear Wheatly repeating.

I watch as the walls finally crush everything in front of me and the lift brings me up to a hallway. I am so tired. I go down the hallway and a door tries to open but gets stuck. I try to lift the gun so I can use it to get through but it feels so heavy now. I manage to do it and limp my way down until I reach Wheatly in the next hallway. It looks like he extended a rail so he could meet me from the dark room up ahead.

He smiles so brightly at me and says, “We did it, we got you away from her.” he says with a slight laugh at the end. All I can do is smile up at him before my body stops listening to me and, once AGAIN, falls to the floor and sends me falling into nothing but darkness.
