I wanted to make something to celebrate the announcement of the gen 3 remake because iv been HOPING for it since before X & Y's reveal. My favourite pokemon comes from this gen and quite a few others I really love. I think people were a little unfair on their judgement of RSE based on the designs or not trying the game at all because of the GBA flop. So im hoping being in 3D on the 3DS will mean more people give it a go this time over (and that they don't change too much/ leave stuff out of the game ofcourse faithful remakes forever!This is mostly watercolors. I was not at all happy with how it came out and I tweaked it in photoshop but im still not lovin it. Ahwell posting anyway

Psh, you are way to hard on yourself gurl! I LOVE all of the subtle textures in the trees, grass, and fur. This is the sort of thing that watercolour is just MADE for, like an illustration from a book. Seriously, this is all pro!

I read something based on number of systems sold it was a -comparitive- flop compared to the gameboy color or DS
I only ever played 2 games on mine when I had it xD

well well well. I guess it would have been hard to beat the sales of the colour, or more so the original gameboy. And the DS has been around for (in its various forms) farΒ longer than the GBA wasΒ I suppose CX

My loathing for R/S/E wasn't because of the design or some GBA flop I've never heard about - it was because I found my experience in Sapphire to be agonizingly boring.
I gave the game a chance - four chances, in fact (the first was a typical playthrough and the other three were just pokemon collecting runs so that I'd have a couple teams of region-specific favorites to transfer over to the future generations), and I did not enjoy it in any of them.

Hmmh to each their own I guess. I know people who loved it and hated it. Mine was 'Its good, but not the best' that falls to 2nd gen

If you don't like this, then I must ask why. I think it's brilliant.

For my work this was kinda sloppy painting and I couldn't get the color hues where I wanted them. The computer did significantly improve the hues but idk maybe im just disappointed I had to edit it so much.

If it's the colours you're talking about, then I can see where you're coming from. But hey, it's not that bad.

Also I'm surprised to hear anyone aside from me disliked R/S. I feel like I'm the only one who didn't like it around here (aside from my boyfriend). The way it sounds on here, everyone loved it and has been LONG awaiting a remake. In fact, because I didn't like it, and everyone else did, I figured I had outgrown Pokemon, and I dropped the series (which had never happened to be before that!). But, a few years later and because my friends begged and pleaded, I got Pokemon Platinum (when it was already old news), and realized, no, I still liked Pokemon, just SOMETHING about R/S didn't sit right with me.
I still can't nail why*, and it's not any of the reasons you mentioned, either. I have a hard time describing why I don't like something, it's just, it doesn't hit the right spot, or something. But I guess I also have a hard time describing why I LIKE something, too, so, well, I guess it's a me thing. xD
*(I know for one thing, I couldn't stand the sound of the music, but that's so minor it can't be why I was not pleased xD)
I'm sure this time around, whatever it was about R/S that didn't sit right with me will be gone, because all the games since then have NEVER let me down. So I'm sure the remakes will even please me. xD
ANYWAY, all that aside, this artwork is beautiful! I loved these guys, too. It certainly wasn't the Pokemon themselves that deterred me, these guys are among my favorites still, as well. x3

I think I read somewhere that the GBA was the worst selling of all nintendo handhelds. Plus it hit when a lot of people were in their 'should I grow out of pokemon phase' lots of people like my hubby didn't even play it and I know MANY MANY people who haven't. Whenever I mention my fav mon is from gen3 I usually hear people saying how they really didn't like that gen at all.
So theres lots of people like myself who gave the game a fair chance and enjoyed it for its merits and theres another market I think nintendo will pull in is people who missed the GBA era.
I do agree that the music was most annoying and sometimes the encounters repeditive because it restricted to gen 1 pokemon only that bugged me. Hoping they fix that!

Oh! One thing I DID really like was the hideouts...was that R/S? God, my memory is terrible. I saw someone else mention it in the comments. I had a LOT of fun with those.
...Or am I thinking of an early DS one...? Ugh. My memory is so bad. I remember putting in tables and things and really enjoying myself because Animal Crossing. xD
I'm sure the remakes will be fine, and whatever it was about the original that I didn't like will be gone. And if they cram it full of variety (like X/Y had, like 90 different Pokemon in each grass square) I'll be super happy. xD
