It always looks like Christine is taking a nap on Erik's shoulder in this shot all she needs to be doing is drooling...

Well, she came back to him. That's the point of the song is that she came to say "goodbye" and well, it was some hell of a goodbye. lol
The Phantom didn't make her do anything in Beneath a Moonless Sky, and I truly believe he wanted her to come to Coney Island was because he had heard what was going on with the Chaney family.

Personally I love the fact that in the novel he DIED about two weeks after she left. The original had closure.

True. TRUE. Trueee!!! D:
He loved her so much that he better wanted to see her happy with an other man than with himself. What were the last lines? "You alone can make my song take flight...it's over now the music of the night!" OVER!! ALW!!OVER! He still loves her but he was free of his obsession. And how Mr Y acts in LND is more obsessed than loving. >.<
And the ending of PotO was one of the best Musical endings (maybe the best) to me. Now it's meanless...*sniff*

I don't quite agree that it made the original ending meaningless. The song isn't great, it sucks really. But the thing with Love Never Dies is that Raoul turned into some alcoholic who was throwing their money away in bets. So the phantom finds out and believes that Raoul is not what is making her happy anymore (Especially since their walking around with Erik's bastard kid.). Nothing can compare to the original Phantom of the Opera, but Love Never Dies was an interesting story, if nothing else.
