in a way ^^ sometimes people can't rely on family or friends to help them through difficult times (the so-called 'support system'). in those situations, people sometimes can develop attachments, addictions or rituals that might seem weird to other people, but those strange things are the only thing that keeps them going. something like that

hmmm that's really interesting that you see it as an assault! because that's exactly the point ^^ other people can see those 'coping mechanisms' as unhealthy/dangerous/destructive, when in reality they have quite the opposite effect. (of course, sometimes they actually are dangerous, but that's another story...)

Using other to cope, and not having a loving family, opens one up to abuse and assault.
But how do you see it? As harmful?
Have you had experience, been abused by those you thought would help?

sometimes it can be harmful - not necessarily in a physical way.

Emotional pain. Sometimes that can be fatal. Sometimes.
