But what the heck is that strange crab/spider/jellyfish/blob-thingy and the "H-button" guy he's next to?

Why are you so sure of that were the specs? Nobody knows how do they look.

I know the little people to the left were specks because one of Ottoborg's sons describes them in the Hall of Records. Y'Know, HE was that gaint featured in Ogdilla's part.

But the Crab and H-button guy to the right, who knows?

So who was in the violet room in the Neverhood? He was with other kings. Yes, I know, there are some strange clay creatures too, but don't you think that they are like graceful horses or mighty lions? Many portraits or statues of the real great names of history are enclosed with lions, horses, eagles etc.
I've thought that the only person whose bust can be with the kings is Numeron. Also it looks like a pile of cubes.
