Description

Archaeopteryx character Angelica peering from out of the right side hatch on the turret of her M4 Shersar medium barrel, looking seductively at some unseen sar standing by the vehicle when she wasn't rolling down toward Bidwell and Auburn amid the snow. Behind her can be seen an abandoned Californian Alton truck, covered in snow, and an M2 Hays GMC (basically a Yankee BT-42), an M2 Custer cavalry barrel that had a 4.5-inch gun mounted on it.

A column of the 2nd Armored "Hell On Wheels" Division rolled down the Reno-Sacramento highway in the winter of 1941-42 as the spearhead of Operation Placekicker, a US Army offensive into the PRC's heartland, sweeping aside all defenses the communists had placed in their path. The division had reached Sacramento's outskirts when it was pulled from the front in February 1942 and shipped eastward to Jefferson, with the 4th Armored Division taking its place. From there, they moved to Fort Riley, Kansas where they rejuvenated and retrained for six months before moving to Camp Kilduff in New Jersey in August where they were shipped out of New York to take part in the Torch landings in Morocco and French Algeria in early November. Lieutenant Reifschneider's crew was given an M4A1 Shersar, a variant of the M4 with a 3-inch M1918 gun instead of the 2-inch M1939.
