March 9th, 2024

Tonight was something special. It's 4AM, but I need to write about it.

I had that dream about competing in Pancrase again. It's been happening more and more often recently. Me standing in an all blue attire with kickpad boots, and my opponent being in the exact copy of my gear except for the colour. Sometimes with an old VHS filter when my mind decides to get extra fancy. But this time, it was different. This time it wasn't a faceless entity that scared the shit out of me, standing in the opposite corner. It was an actual person this time, with an actual face! And the best part was, that I recognized her.

Cathy Anderson, one of the members at a BJJ gym I used to frequent back in the day. We would roll quite often, as she was always present when I was training. She was pretty great, and had a nasty rear naked choke to boot. We lost touch with each other once I decided to move to Japan to pursue a professional career in combat sports. I guess I took seeing her in the gym for granted.

I don't know why exactly she appeared in my mind tonight, but I didn't question it in the slightest during the moment. I took my stance and treated it like a normal match.

Usually when some shots were thrown, or some grappling was initiated, I'd wake up soon after. This time, I didn't. We were actually slugging it out, and it was fantastic. It all felt so real.

She started by keeping me at a distance with kicks, really forcing me to work for each hit. And eventually I did get in close, catching her leg with one arm, and trying to land open palm strikes with the other. I was pressuring her with those strikes, and I felt she had to pivot to grappling.
