As for your question, No the new game is nothing like the older ones, but that doesn't mean that its bad.
The game is way off from anything that the old god of war games were but there are still moments that remind you of the old god of war games.
If you're looking for a recommendation I'd say go for it, It's very different but it's also a very good game but if you're gonna play it expecting the same mindless destruction and chaos that are in the older games then this isn't for you mate. hope this helps.

And yes, I noticed today from watching and reading a few reviews.
After I was through with them I thought; yes, I'm going to play it, but not anytime soon. I am someone who generally ignores hype trains and therefore often don't even realize a trend when it's jumping and waving around my face.
I'll wait for the game to become cheaper and will eventually buy it then.
