Actually, it's based on the boxart for "Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest."
It's probably one of the least popular CV games, (due to it's lesser difficulty, vague NPC hints, and hard-to-figure-out-without-a-guide puzzles) but I still like it, and it helped create the "Metroidvania" genre.

I see that this artist was inspired both from MLP: FiM episode "Castle Mania" and the "Castlevania", which is oldschool computer game.
This picture is highly detailed and done very precisely. Every piece of stairs, Pinkie's pipes and her flowing cloak, the whole castle architecture, every single star in the sky at night, shading on Pinkie and Twilight, Twilight's uniform, her whip and the rest of this pic, including parodies of Konami and Nintendo companies, was and it's still the feast for my eyes and for my mind. And I realiy love ponies' manga - styled eyes - they remind me shounens.

Ahhh, okay. Β Sometimes the crossovers can get out of hand, even if this one was done pretty long ago, haha. Β If I wasn't in the pony fandom (heck, by now I'm pretty much a filthy casual when it comes to being a fan), I probably could see how it might be annoying considering ponies are crossed over with practically everything now compared to back when this was drawn.

I don't think anybody has the power to stop the pony fandom (or any fandom for that matter) from making crossovers and parodies of anything, really. Hehe nice classic game boxart parody. I love how "Twilight Scepter" is the whip. I like how you used the grey line framing like the old Konami NES games' boxart did.
My one critique is, the way you often give MLP characters tiny pupils in their eyes makes them look a bit surprised/crazy, or something. Kinda makes their expressions a bit off, so they'd look better a li'l bit bigger. No offense, not sure if that's intentional for the satirical images you make.

The tiny pupil thing is kind of deliberate, in my opinion it seems to fit more of the wacky and zany art style I prefer for these sorts of silly crossovers. Β Most of my earlier pics and recent crossovers are meant to be nonsense so I find the tiny pupil effect kind of adds a bit of cartoonish silliness in that regard. Β For serious stuff I'd definitely enlarge the pupils for that kind of effect, depending on the attitude I'd like the pic to have. Β Thanks for the feedback
