Description second progress picture of the cage lineart [link] and 1st progress picture [link]

Mias, Elle, and Elias belong to the lovely

Copic on Canson smooth bristol. Colors.....I used all of them lol

The line in the middle of the page is from having to join two printouts of the reproduced lines. I really wanted to color this larger so I had to print the original 14x17 image onto two 11x17 pages of bristol. I have been coloring overlaps on the bottom page, so hopefully when I combine them digitally they will join with no seam. This is my first time trying it so here's hoping it works out well!

Yep! but sooooo worth it!! Just think of all the ones you would already have if you switched markers for coffee lol (or at least this is very much the case for me)

Ill just have to invest in some when I get paid next (which will be a while since I'm on a LOA.) I just bought some markers, the prismacolor ones. Are the ones you have significantly better or are they pretty similar?

I used prismacolor for a long time....definitely make a color chart since the color on the outside is rarely the same as the color of the ink and get familiar with wet into wet blending. Copic sketch markers have a tip that make it very easy to blend, but with prismas you just have to be quick and consistent. It takes practice but you can get good results.

Sweet, thank you! I'll definitely have to invest in some of them then! Cause I LOVE blending.

Update: I work at an art supply store, and now prismacolor makes markers with a brush tip that are only slightly more expensive than the regular ones. A good choice if you are in that price range and don't want to switch to copics yet.

copics are incredible. im not nearly as practiced (or rich enough to afford half a dozen of them) but this is beautiful. i saw the finished piece. did you add the green light in his hand digitally?

Yes. Some of the hair highlights and jewel shiny bits were done by hand but strengthened in pshop....it's really useful if not overdone!

I can't get over how many hundreds of dollars those copic markers must have cost you... I am amazed and envious.

It's definitely something I saved for and purchased one or two at a time. If you are interested in buying a lot, I would definitely be smart about the way you buy your colors (figure out the marker number system and test colors to get color sets that work for you so that you can do shading even though you may only have a few markers) and see if the local store/web store has a tax free weekend or a student discount. I purchased over half of my markers after saving forever....I worked at an art supply store so I got a discount on them, plus it was tax free weekend and the markers were on sale. Add up those savings and I saved a lot of money! It takes some tracking down but it was definitely worth it!

you probably heard this before but.. wow It is always something else when you only see the finished drawing. It doesn't seem quite as real as when you see it in steps... so many colours, you must be quite patient^^

OMG! This is looking incredible, its so refreshing to see so many colours on my boys and it suits them so well! I'm still in awe about the folds in the cloaks. So well done! I can't wait to see the finished result!!!!

BethanyRoot In reply to StressedJenny [2011-08-04 19:42:51 +0000 UTC]

yeah. I kinda realized aftr the fact that ALL of them would be in black and it would end up with no visual interest whatsoever lol. I really do like Elias in green.....maybe in a less peter-pan esque tunic, but it suits him, methinks

StressedJenny In reply to BethanyRoot [2011-08-04 20:00:48 +0000 UTC]

Its stunning, it suits him so much and works really well as a colour for him. I always rely on yellows for Elle and blues for Mias and reds for Abernos so green would be a perfect choice for him. I can't tell you how much I love this!
