Description Here's Alex from "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess. The book was amazing although a bit hard to read. The movie was good, too, but I prefer the book.

This is the scene where the "doctors" are showing him films of violence while playing classical music in the background. They show him footage of Nazi concentration camps and in the background Beethoven's Ninth Symphony is being played. Beethoven's Ninth is Alex's favorite piece of music. Meanwhile they've been giving him medicine to make him nauseous when viewing the films, thus conditioning him to hate violence. But now he's feeling nauseous while listening to the music. So he starts screaming out "It's a sin! Beethoven never hurt anyone! He just made music!" but the doctors continue to play it making it part of the conditioning. So now he can't listen to the music he loves.

I really liked this part because it's just so powerful, you know? The emotion in both the book and the movie are amazing and it really affected me. So for a school project, when my teacher asked us to illustrate and discuss a part of a book, movie, poem, song, etc., I instantly knew I was going to do this.

The shading and lineart could probably be better, but I kinda had to rush it since it's late and I still haven't showered. But I still really like it.

It's ironic, though, isn't it? You must realize the parallels between the fiction, and the non-fiction in that Stanley Kubrick molests Beethoven in the same way that the doctors do in the conditioning scene in the movie.

Now Kubrick burns in Hell.

I would've liked the song to be screwed with less but I wouldn't go that far to say Kubrick failed as a director and a human being. I still think it's a good movie as are more of his films.

Yeah, I was trying to finish the thing before midnight. :-P And besides, I figured since it was a school project, everyone would just go "ooh ahh" and not really notice the little stuff. But you're right. It could be a lot better. I'm glad you think the emotion is portrayed well; I really strive to show emotion in my art. Thank you for the critique!
