I think the diagonal angle works very well - its fluid enough to not be distracting but also allows one to see multiple levels of the scene. Lovely! You said it still is a bit cartoon-y - what would you do to make it otherwise?

Probably the rendering of the insects. I feel like they were a bit of an afterthought after working on the scene itself.

it reminds me of beatrix potter story books.

I still feel like it's a bit 'cartoony'- but I guess it gets the point across. I was pretty focused on the cut-away aspect, and fell short on making it seem naturalistic. My bad.

Yay! Pretty insects! I agree with the others - it is a very dynamic way to portray a classic scene.

I like the diagonal, though it's not as clear cut as the straight view. It is dynamic, and it still gets the point across. Frankly every time I see one of these in a visitor center my brain turns off.

Yeah- that's what i was trying to avoid. I wanted something more naturalistic and visually interesting.

The straight view ones, that is...sorry if that was unclear.

I love the composition of this. I think the diagonal of the underwater part works perfectly, even if you did "break a rule". Awesome job! All of your work is fantastic, by the way! I've been seeing stoneflies emerging by the river where I live, in the snow!
