i like how the lantern is in the foreground ... it gives a somewhat sneaky perspective to the shot ... like a person is peeking around the lantern to see if anyone is coming down the stairs

I love how in a whole scene you are able to keep it so simple that you just have three Major colors. Black, Brown and Beige. The three come together to form a simple pleasure to the eye.
This is a photo you would almost want hanging at the end of a corridor as if it were a scene you would want to walk into. Great shot bill!

I did love the lighting that day. Overcast, getting read to rain (it did about 40 minutes later). Nature's perfect diffuser.

Isn't that the Imperial Symbol of Japan? (not sure, but I think I saw something about it on T.V. a few years ago). The Chrysanthemum? During World War II, I think they had it engraved on their rifles? And when they were threatened to be defeated, the soldiers would deface the symbol so U.S. soldiers couldn't take it as souveniers. I think that's awesome cuz it shows so much dignity and honor the Japanese Soldiers have.
I'm soo going to find a lantern like that somewhere, or make it if I have to, some day.
