Jasmine was a young pony when her cutie mark first appeared. During her family’s trip to visit relatives several towns over, she heard a roadside band playing music with a rather jazzy tune to it. She enjoyed the sound, and all the while hummed the music to herself the remainder of the trip. It was when she returned home that Jasmine wanted to try playing music like that of her own. Getting a musical instrument, Jasmine tried to play the music she had heard from the band, but it sounded nowhere near as well as their music did. Frustrated, she moved away from music. The sound of the tune however, the rhythm and the beat was very addicting to her, and was difficult to get out of her head. When a traveling band arrived in Ponyville, her family went to Ponyville to attend the carnival and festivities that were in town. Jasmine was immediately focused on the stage, when a young mare appeared, singing softly to some lounge style piano music. It sounded so similar to her ears, Jasmine wanted to get involved. When speaking to the young mare later, the mare offered her to sing with her onstage. Jasmine accepted her offer, and began to sing with the mare. Her voice may not have been perfect, but no sooner did she begin singing that her cutie mark appeared, marking her new rite of passage.

Years down the road, Jasmine (now referred to as Jazz Note or “Jazzy” by her friends) moved to Ponyville for better education opportunities, while her parents remained at home. Her younger brother was told to follow Jazzy, and together the two shared a small home together. Jazzy continued her education into her highschool years, and like any individual, wanted somebody special in her life. However, because of her brother’s presence, Jazzy would get teased, being called a “teenage mother,” or that she and her brother were “orphans” that needed help. No matter what they did, it wasn’t enough to keep away the teasing. Jazzy did small jobs while her brother was in school, trying to build a career for herself. She had a good business selling milkshakes in front of their home, but it didn’t bring in enough revenue. Finally, Jazzy met Gilden Crescent, the young mare who ran the cider barn in town. Gilden allowed Jazzy to work in the barn, just as long as she didn’t touch any of the beverages, and she didn’t drink anything only adult ponies should drink. Since that day, Jazzy has worked hard, maintained a positive attitude on life, and is still hopeful that she will one day have a bright future.
